Best Rotel amp for Dynaudi Focus 110s

    Hello

I have a pair Dynaudi Focus 110s, a RDC1072 and I'm thinking of replacing the RA01 I currently have with a RC1070 and a RB1070.. Would this be a reasonable upgrade to get more out of my speakers ?

    Thanks

    Steve ?

1080 would a better move. 1090 would be bulletproof!
Analog: VPI Scoutmaster w/ Steel Delrin clamp + Dynavector 20XH cart
Digital: SB3 + PS Audio Digital Link III DAC
      System: Cary Audio SLP-98P Tube Preamplifier w/ Sylvanias -> Plinius SA102 Class A amplifier -> Martin Logan SUMMITS/Strata Minis -> 8O (me)

More power is always a good thing when driving speakers. I will never have less than 200wpc driving any of my speakers.

Rc 1070 and Rb 1070 would be nice, but have to buy exxpensive cables between them

I have Dynaudio Special 25's, I also have the Contour SR's and also a pair of the Contour S5.4's that I'm going to sell. I've tried Rotel, Krell (on trial), and Bel Canto (going to sell) with them. The Rotel's I've heard them on are my own Michi RHB10 and also the 3 channel 200W thing from a while ago (993?). Anyway they do love power, but having said that I was never completely satisfied with the Rotels. I ended up buying a DEQX (digital crossover and equaliser) and have biamped the Special 25's using the Rotel Class D 1077. I'm using 4 of the 7 channels to truly biamp the Special 25's and the remaining 3 channels for centre and surround duties. This has been by far the best combo so far. I'd seriously consider the 1077 and then you have 5 channels free for surround/movies later down the track.

How exactly did you bi amp the 25's?? Did you modify the internal crossover and add a second pair of binding posts?? I thought the 25's like most of there speakers don't have the ability to be bi wired or bi amped?????

I replaced my RA-02 with a RC-1070, and RB 980 combo, with my dynaudios, and there was a huge improvement. Dynaudio speakers like power, and most are 4 ohm, and/or not very efficient.

                    Thanks for the input guys...

I picked up a secondhand RC1070 for $400 CND and have ordered an RB1080.. No Rotel dealers around here had one in stock, so on a leap of faith I ordered it anyway. Should be here in a day or two can't wait.

I was going to trade in the RA-01, it's in perfect condition and three year old does $150 CND sound reasonable I was hoping for a little more..

I desoldered the drivers from the existing crossover and then soldered them directly (speaker cable entering the rear port now instead, binding posts not used) to the 1077. The DEQX is doing the crossover and correcting the individual drivers frequency response, phase and group delay. The speakers are measured at 1 meter to correct the speaker response and then in the listening postision to correct the room response. The crossover you can vary at will. You can choose up to 300dB per octave linear phase crossover as opposed to the 6dB per octave that Dynaudio uses. Advantages are that each driver operates in its own range only, so you no longer get lobing/comb filtering. You get a much broader sweet spot.

                        Check out www.deqx.com

And no I don't work for them, I'm just your average obsessed hifi buff.

Eventually I'll reconnect the existing crossover, sell the Dyns, and have custom speakers made for the the DEQX.

New here! Great forum. Been learning a lot. I am a newbie to home theater. I'm currently running a Zenith 32" HDTV (don't have model info on anything handy) with an Onky 5.1 surround amp and big Cambridge Soundworks mains with lesser center and rears.
