help me choose 1080,1090 or 1077

Hi; I seek you wisdom ;x(

Im getting a new power amplifier for my birthday but with one?
I currently have rotel 976 mk2 bridged 3*150 to front and center but it seems that the front speakers want more.

I use AE AElite three and rate 90/8 but they are despite of the label on the back very hard driven.

Since the 1090 is discontinued it seems to be the last chance o get this one before the 1092 fully takes over.

However the 1080 that is 2'200 (only in theory 50 watts more) seems to have more grunt when you look at the power specs and HCC when you look at the specs at my 976. I think the 1080 will do, however i have some doubts i dont want to buy a new (yes it has to be new sorry :B ).

My mind is thinking about the 1090 but it is an old design and expensive here in Sweden. The 1080 is approx 1100 dollars cheaper so there is that to take in the descision.

The 976 does not drive the speakers well it lacks the abbility do move the speaker cones it seems (damn those speakers).

However if i chose to buy the 1080 i will drive the center and rear spekers with the 976 and in one years time proboably pick up a used 1077 and get both the 1077 and 1080 at the cost of an 1090.

What would you guys (and girls) do?

I have 2x RB1092 front & rear plus a RB1091 for center. :T


RB1090 respect but surpassed (personaly opinion)

Personally I think using specs without actually listening to the amp wont get you very far. When I needed to replace my amp with something smaller (and more channels) I was overlooking the 1077 as it was "only" 100 wpc and my then current amp was 300 wpc. After being talked into audtioning the 1077 I left the store with one that day and have never looked back. I was skeptical of digital amps but now I fully support them.
