It would be really great if I could get my Rotel Remote to learn commands, the way instructions tell you it can. According to the booklet, the remote can learn up to 160 commands! Well, I've tried everything: dimming the lights, turning the lights off, varying the distance between remotes, varying the incident angle, varying the time the button is pressed ... nothing ... Error message. I've read a few posts on here where people recommend various tactics. My question is: has anyone EVER been able to teach commands to their Rotel Remote ... at all? I'd like to hear from you.

what types of commands are you referring to? I've been able to program my 1068 remote (RR1050 I believe?) to learn the commands of my Sony 32" Wega remote. I now use the Rotel remote to control the TV. Well... my rsx-1057 remote has been a big disappointment. First, I can't for the life of me believe how the code database for this remote has only one code for Directv boxes and doesn't work on any of my set top boxes... I would imagine that a very large rotel client base has directv. To top it off, the remote refuses to learn any of my DTV remotes. Yes...they're all in IR mode. I did manage to get it to actually learn my AppleTV remote, which I was happy about, but the reality is that on the learning front i would say you're lucky to get it to learn 50% of the time.
I think the remote with these units is a huge oversite. As a new Rotel owner, I really think the quality of the units are amazing... with the exception of the remote which is laughable. Really the remote quality should match the component quality...there is no excuse. Sure we can all go out and buy a $300 harmony remote or something, but at the prices Rotel charges, the remotes should at least be as good as a $50 universal remote.

Take it from a dealer, buy a seperate system remote. The Rotel remotes do not learn very well!! They have been a source of frustration for me for a while. :banghead: Get a remote from Harmony or URC (my favorite) instead. It will make you life a lot easier.Originally posted by PatAndrae

Just about any remote included with a receiver or pre/pro is worthless IMO. If you going to have a decent system a nice universal is just as important as any other component/speaker.Comment

Just wish the macro button was on the main section not hidden in the hidden section of the slide down panel. For something that is designed to be used every day eg. for switching everything on & off, odd decision to hide it there.
Something that could be handy is using the Multi-Step Button Learning for the Power button so that hitting the Power button once powers the Rotel, twice for the Tv/monitor and third time for a source? Only prob is cannot figure out how to program the Power Button for Multi-Step, especially setting the first one to power itself? Yes my RR1050 is also working like a dream, controls TV , DVD, Processor, Sattelite box and dimming the lights.Heavy on batteries though, but I have rechargebles.Originally posted by Club1820

So I got my RSX1057 and started setting up the remote. I can't seem to locate a remote code that will control my DirecTV sat. box. I've looked in the codes that it came with...they have one listed for Hughes which doesn't work. Then I tried to make the remote learn, no dice. It says "OK"... -

I have had Harmony remotes for more than 4 years now and up until yesterday I have been very happy with their functionality. They have allowed me to have a complex system that the family could operate.
Logitech has deemed it neccesary to remove the capability to send multiple commands...
