    Rdv 1092

I've had this dvd player for abut 6 months now. ever since i got it i thought that it responded VERY slowly to all commands, even just redbook cd's.
I bought the full 5 seasons of 24. these dvd's play so badly on my player, some of the show will not even play, the dvd player just stops and shutsdown. however, when i put the same dvd's in my laptop or my other dvd player, which is a cheapy sony that is 3 years old, the dvd's play fine, perfectly fine.
my question is, is this a problem with my dvd player or just the 1092 in general.
anyone else having these kind of problems?

    thanks

Sounds like it needs an firmware update. You may want to call Rotel and ask if the firmware has been updated. You can probably install it yourself with a serial port and cable.

Maybe that is the reason they launched the rdv 1093 in so short time from the 1092.

I think I read here that the differences were only in the transport.

There is a different transport, but it's also now meets the Rohs standard. It now has no lead in it.

Wow! Rotel is on a roll. They have produced some junk for DVD players lately, not to mention the problems with the 1055 CD changer.

Considering their track record of late, it makes me wonder if the RCD-1072 was the last good CD or DVD player we can expect from them. Looks like they should stick to receivers, pre/pros, and amps. And. even some of these have their issues. Reminds me of the green sticker QC they implemented a couple of years back. Seems like the QC issues are still a problem.

agreed... there is no way this unit was inspected properly before leaving the factory. if it was inspected and passed then Rotel knew they were sending out junk.

                update:
i just brought my rdv1092 back to my dealer. he took it from me and said i should have a new one quickly then gave me a loaner rdv1092 to use until my new one arrives.
he also told me this has been a common problem with the first release of this player but Rotel has corrected it.
who can be upset with that kind of service?

Glad to see they are making the effort to make it right for you. Let's hope the newer units get sorted out...for Rotel's sake as we can always turn elsewhere.

Yesterday I tried an rdv-1092 against my rdv-1060 and the newest Marantz dv7001. On music 1092 was better than the other two and I could not find any differences in picture quality among the 1092 and the 7001 (using HDMI on a Mitsubishi HC3000 projector at 720p).

Tray in the 7001 was softer but the look was even more plastic than the Rotel one.

The 7001 was lesser tolerant to some home made back up DVD's but also the 1092 gave more problems in this area than my old Rotel rdv-1060.

For me the design of the Rotel wins the Marantz hands down.

Only one problem. The Marantz, for 800 Euros, has a better price/feature ratio than the Rotel for 1500 Euros (I consider this price a rip off at least in Europe).

As I consider the look a very important factor I could be insterested in buying the Rotel (slightly better sound, more or less same picture quality and I don't mind really much about SACD or DIV-x) even paying almost double.

But as I heard the problems you had with the 1092 I've been looking for the 1093 but found that it is not in the Rotel website in USA or Europe and that the user manual has been removed too from the net.

What's going on with the RDV-1093? Is it already in the market? in USA? in Europe?. If not in the market, when it's going to be launched?

Any info abut the actual situation of the 1093 will be highly appreciated.

                    Best regards

thank god I haven't upgraded from my constantly faulty RDV-1060 to the 1092! They can replace the loading tray as many times as they want. It's just bad, loading time is not slow, it takes ages for a disc to load. For players, CDs or DVDs, I'm gonna stick to other brands.. Just watched some of my R-DVDs.. way too many problems.. just ouf of experience..

The RDV-1093 is scheduled to ship this month. It's the same player except for a different transport, which is quicker according to the people in tech support, and it's Rohs compliant.

To make a long story short, my RDV-1092 broke down after almost 6 month of usage (with some minor problems), one day it simply refused to read any discs at all, DVD/CD/-R/DVDA, just "No disc" in the display.

I sent it away for repair and when i talked the company who repaired it, they said it wasnt the same transport they replaced the old one with. And i have noticed MUCH quicker repsonse for reading discs and also som discs that didnt work before, works just fine now.

                          /Daniel

                              Congratulations skippy.

I just ended up changing my rdv 1060 for the new 1092. Much better image, 1080p scaling and also better sound, and had the 1060 traded by my dealer.

I compared it with Marantz DV7001 and found no bigger differences (Rotel was better imho at least for sound) and didn't like to spend 500 more euros in the Marantz dv9600 with the new high definition players already in the market, so I cross my fingers and hope not to have problems with my unit. And top of it matches in style with my rsx 1056.

I asked too when the new 1093 was going to be launch in Spain, and the distributor told my dealer that they had plenty of 1092's and didn't expect the change along this year (?????).

Well, now I'm setting the unit and I'd like to know if I must doble up the information of speaker size and speaker distance as this info is already kept in the rsx 1056.

Didn't I'll will mess everything if I set this information in the player and again in the receiver?.

Also for Europe. Which is the best IRE setting (As I have many NTSC DVD's).

If you have any "tricks" for this player, please I'll appreciate your inputs.

                              Best regards
