    Pre/Pro recommendations

    Hi everybody,

In the very near future, I will be upgrading to a pre/pro from my current Denon 3803. I would like some suggestions as to what pre/pro would be an ideal match for my Rotel RMB 1095. How many digital inputs is suffice? More is better but is 3 coaxial and 2 optical sufficient for the multitudes of digital equipment nowadays?

Outlaw Audio and Rotel are ones I am looking at right now. My budget would be in the 1000.00 to 1500.00 CAD range for starters of course give or take a few hundred bucks.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

If you need or would like HDMI switching, then you'll have to wait a little bit for a Rotel. The current scaler, the RVE-1060, that Rotel has as an add on to the RSP-1068 and RSP-1098 WILL NOT switch 1080P. Who knows if they will replace the RVE-1060 in the future, but it is not upgradeable in it current form. They would have to start from scratch for a piece that will do 1080P. The new preamps are supposed to be out sometime this fall but no firm time table is set at this time. The only piece that is on it's way that will do 1080P is the RSX-1058 and that ships in April.

At this point there is no firm word that the new preamps will have PCM audio over the HDMI inputs. If the latest news about the 1058 receiver is true, there will be no audio over HDMI with the new pre/pros.

The RSX-1058 WILL do audio from the HDMI inputs. The last news my rep had gotten from Rotel showed it will do uncompressed multichannel PCM as well. I will try to verify that as soon as I can.

Have you tried, or are you just going by the specs?

I find it hard to believe it can't be upgradeable to even pass 1080p. The same video chip is in the RSX-1058 and it's currently SCALING to 1080p with the latest beta version. I can easily see an upgrade to get the 1060 to scale to 1080p as well.

That is coming from the horses mouth so to speak. I confimed it with the guys in tech support at Rotel, it will not switch (pass) anything 1080P and it can't be upgraded. Because of the architecture of the piece and the chip set it uses (I don't know for sure if the chipset is the same in the RSX-1058, but I'll try to find out) it will not handle anything 1080P. We have not ordered one for our store because of it. The RVE-1070 was going to, but that piece has been killed. The chipset that was going to be used in that unit wasn't as advertised by the manufacturer and they (the manufacturer) were sold before the R&D was done anyway. Sorry for the ban news.

I too was on the lookout for a good Pre/Pro to go with my 1095, and decided that it would be better to just wait it out until the HDMI business worked out some more wrinkles.
I ended up with a Pioneer for a Pre/Pro for a little while to do my switching.

As far as I know, the front runner in the HT HDMI switching arena is Anthem..
                D2, AVM 40, & AVM 50
They are making quite the amazing units there, but hard for me to swallow the Price right now...

^^ be carful the AVM 40 is currently not able to pass a 1080p signal. Anthem is aware and are working a fix no ETA yet.

                    New Classic Pre/Pro & Rotel Pre/Pro
                    by fhsun
Hello, has anyone had the chance to listen to both New Classic pro/pro and compared it to Rotel pre/pro? Namely 7100 vs Rotel 1068?

Are they sonically similar or very different? How would you describe the Parasound sound?

The pre/pro would be driven by a Rotel RMB-1075...

                    Hey Guys..

First, please bear with me if I forget any pertinent details or sound completely ignorant (first surround system and first ever post on a chat board)

After much “lurking” on this board and researching manufacturer’s specifications and prices I am (at this...

I've been running a Marantz SR-7000 as a pre-pro / processor through a Rotel RMB-1075. The Marantz is fine but getting a little long in the tooth (or maybe it's just the itch). I use it 50/50 for HT and music.

In any case, I'm thinking of replacing it and am thinking of buying used....

                    Rotel 1055 Vs Rotel 1066
                    by NHT
Hello forumners. I need assistance with some Rotel gear. AT the time, I am using the 1055 receiver as my pre/pro, paired with a Rotel RMO1095. This combo is pushing B&W CDM7nts and HTM7 center channel. Although it sounds wonderful now, I was wondering if I can improve the sound quality by getting...

                    Rotel 1055 vs Denon 3803
                    by Don
I was thinking of getting the rsp 1066 or avr 3803 (pre/pro) and the a rotel amp. Prices in the combo are very close.

I want the rotel combo but should I be concerned about the burr-brown (24/192) dacs and 24/96 dts that the denon has and not the rotel?

                    Thanks.
