If you had around $2500 for an amplifier and preamplifier or integrated amplifier for a 2-channel system what would you pick? I am looking at the Krell KAV 400xi, Musical Fidelity A5 for integrateds or RB-1080 and RC 1070 from Rotel. They will be in a bedroom that will be 2-channel only most likely running a pair of Anthony Gallo Ref 3.1 speakers. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Both are pretty fine systems. Have you listened to the combo you listed? I love Krell products, i had a chance to audition them couple years back, and the sound quality was amazing. That said i have not heard the 400xi. Also i never auditioned the Fidelity A5. Both have great built quality. Great 2ch sound. I guess it comes down to which system sounds good to you. With the speakers you have tough, maybe i would lean more towards Rotel RB 1080 and the 1070. Like i said, thats only because i never heard the Fidelity A5's. Though choice, good luck.

I'm a big fan of Rotel, I have a RC-1070 with a RB-1080 and have been very happy. Granted, I realize there are better brands and equipment out there, but I think for the money Rotel is pretty hard to beat.

I have heard the Krell but with Krell speakers. I used to have a Musical Fidelity A3.2 integrated which I loved, but I sold it to buy an RSP 1068 and RMB 1075 combo for the home theater. I will be auditioning the Anthony Gallo speakers, but the guy has them setup with Cary Audio pre/amp combo.Comment

You're in for a treat with the Gallo floorstanders... can't suggest what the best synergystic amp match is, but I have heard the Ref3's driven by Musical Fidelity electronics (at a show, don't remember the model), and they were glorious.
They filled a semi-large room much better than I would ever have imagined, given their petite profile.

I just got my pair of 802D from a local dealer who used them as his demos for about 6 months or so. I had Rotel RSX-1056 (used as preamp) + RB-1070 to drive my 704s before, and need to get a new power amp and preamp in the near future.
