    Rotel RSX 1067

First post and unfortunately not a positive one but here goes ...

I just purchased a used RSX 1067 from an Audiogon member and it looks like it was damaged in shipping ( as per the seller ...) and one of the Speaker Terminals of the 7.1 on the back panel is broken off . If that was not enough the three remaining Terminals are pushed up a bit but funtional as well as there is some Chassis damaged in that same area of the panel ... Not major but you can see it's not how it should be .

I know it's some pretty broad strokes I just painted but does anyone have an idea or first hand knowledge on what it would cost for repairing the Terminal ,etc ??? I had a perfect RSX1056 and thought I was upgrading and I just use 5.1 at the most however I would like to get this back to normal if I could.

I'm sure if I send it out to Rotel it would be a few weeks if not months looking at past posts on repair but looking for a ballpark price at best. I have been going back and forth with who I purchased it from but doesn't seem to be working out and I can't get a clear answer if there was any insurance on it to begin with.

Thanks , any replies would be appreciated

Not perfectly clear – does that mean the seller described it as already damaged?... or the seller acknowledges it got damaged?... or you think it's the seller's responsibility?

Probably not what you want to hear, but you really need to establish that shipping will be insured before any transaction is made... hopefully this was done.

In general terms, the seller is responsible to handle damage claims with the shipper, particularly if insurance was arranged... if it was not insured, the seller will likely be reluctant to make it right, and the shipper will surely refuse to be responsible for damage without insurance... Audiogon won't be in a position to help, if I read their terms correctly.

It also helps to photograph the piece at both the seller's and buyer's locations, to document any problems... it is also prudent to refuse shipment of a box that is visibly badly damaged.

Hopefully, your seller will be cooperative... while they (or whoever paid / arranged for shipping) should chase down the damage claim, it doesn't always work out this way.

Furthermore, I wouldn't leave a damaged speaker terminal go unattended... that's where the high current is, and where some real trouble could occur if the wrong things are touching.

    Good luck.

How did you pay this guy? If you paid via Paypal I would file a claim with them to put the money on hold until things are worked out.
Also if you have the tracking number you can find out how much the decalred value was on the package by calling the carrier and just asking them.

Thanks guys ... It was a USPS M/O and I do have the Fed ex tracking number, I just haven't got a chance to get to Fed ex to see if there was insurance but will tomorrow morning with pix of the damage . It was descibed as 8/10 with a few scatches on the website but no pix , when I contacted the seller about the Terminal after I opened up the box he was it was sent out perfect .( My bad for for buying something not in original box )

It was a poor wrap job for sure , one sheet of bubble wrap around the 50lb unit and rolls of bubble surrounded the inside of the box like bumpers .The way the boxes are rolled in the truck I can see it landing on a corner.

Appreciate the responses ..I guess after fed ex Tomorrow I'll see how it goes with a claim ,etc

Robert, to answer one of the questions you asked me from an earlier response ...

I went to the Fed ex store this moring they of course can't tell me if there was Insurance and told me to call the 800 #. I just did and they can't tell me either ...only the seller can tell me if there was Insurance. Nice

Probably won't matter if it was insured. Fedex, like most shippers, will not pay if the receiver is not in its factory box for exactly what happened to you. The exception is if the shipper packs the receiver for you. Sorry to tell you this but thats the way it most likely will go.
