1080p added to RSX-1058
I spoke with a Rotel technical consultant this morning to find out the release date of the RSX-1058, and it will be at the end of March, or early in April. (hopefully). I asked about the fact that 1080p is not included. He said that they made a last minute change, and added 1080p capability. I am deciding between a Marantz SR-8001, or the Rotel, for a new system using 804s front speakers. Should I wait an extra month? by the way, he raved about the new Rotel RSX-1058. He said it was fantastic.- Bottom

Rotel received updated software for the scaling chip which added 1080p support. It's the same chip used in the RVE-1060, so we might see an update adding 1080p support for it.
The new DSP chip from TI is supposed to sound better then the one used in the 1057. No word on any new DSP features.
PCM over HDMI is still not known.

I spoke with rotel technical support 2 days ago. The new rsx-1058 is supposed to go into production by the end of March, and be on the market by the end of April. Again, the tech support person raved about it, and said they all were going to buy one for themselves.- Bottom

PCM over HDMI would actually solve my next gen format needs for a good while. I can get DD + and TrueHD from HD DVD via the analog ouputs, and PCM via HDMI from BD. Rotel if you are listening please add this. If you havent read the news yet Cheapo HD DVD players from China will be flooding the market in a matter of months.- Bottom

I will wait until Rotel actually announces PCM capability. Reps are notorious for promising features that never materialize. The 1058 is now listed on the Rotel price list, but no mention is made of PCM capability. I will believe it when I see it directly from Rotel.- Bottom

Any news on this receiver's availability? If it does HDMI 1.3 or at least PCM audio over HDMI then it's a buy for me until the 1098 replacement next year. My 1066 is getting really long in the tooth, and with a Blu Ray and HD DVD player and a Xbox 360 Elite on the horizon, I sure wouldn't mind HDMI PCM audio/video switching...- Bottom

Rotel RSX 1058
Spoke with Rotel today. They are now woriking out one final software issue. The receiver should be available now around the end of May, or early June. This has been delayed for a few months already. I hope it is available soon. I have been waiting for it since March.- Bottom

I think the best news of all is that there are some killer deals on 1057's. I just got one for $1050 and am more than satisfied with every aspect of the reciever (except the remote). Scaling would be nice, but not for a grand. And as far as HDMI inputs, I'm making due with the 2 I have on the reciever, plus the extra one directly on my Sony LCD. Now if I can just get a great deal on a 1070 :-)- Bottom

Does anyone know the actual features the 1058 will have (HDMI version/Video Upscaling/how many zones/assignable amps/can it make my coffee/etc) ???
I just bought my first house and this may suit my needs perfectly but with so many posts in this thread about possible features I have no idea what it will actually be able to do.- Bottom

1.2a (will pass 1.3)
yes, up to 1080p
3 extra zones, analog only. Separate IR codes or keypads
Not sure, at least front to center rear or zone 2. Would be nice to assign rear amps to zone 3 as well.
Only 100% pure Colombian decaf.
Of course until it ships very few know the exact features. (1080p scaling and PCM decoding through HDMI weren't included when first announced)

Any news on specs yet? My friend just bought a 65" B&O plasma with the Beosystem 3 and it accepts PCM via HDMI. I used to always bug him about his B&O gear being so far behind.
Honestly I cant wait any longer I have only been buying HD disc for the last year and have over 100 of them. If Rotel doesnt support the new sound formats in some capacity I will have to switch my loyalty...as much as I dont want to.- Bottom

bb bones,
The dimensions and weight for the RSX-1058 are the same as the RSX-1057. It's the same chassis and same amplifiers.
To all,
I talked to my rep today and the RSX-1058's are in the warehouse. There is a software upgrade that will be done to all of them they have in stock (just to fix a couple of bugs found in beta testing) and then they will ship them. Look for them to start shipping around the 19th, 20th, or 23rd of July. He also confirmed that it will do audio from the HDMI inputs. That means uncompressed PCM as well as DD, dts.

Interesting.. I hadn't considered that option, but using the 1058 as a pre in conjunction with my rmb 1095 just might solve all of my issues. Does anyone know how the 1058's pre/pro performance would stack up against Rotel's other 2 dedicated multi channel pre/pros in terms of HT and 2 channel? It seems like an attractive option when you factor the small difference in price between the 1068 and 1058 and also consider the added flexibility.- Bottom

Perfomance is a little bit unknown because the DSP engine is brand new in the RSX-1058. The preamp section I'm sure is very good and on the same level as the RSP-1068. The RSP-1068 maybe a little better because the power supply only has the preamp to run. When the RSX-1058 is available, just listen to it if possible and see fro yourself. I plan on getting one for myself.
