    Rotel RCD-971 reliability

What kind of reliability can I expect from a used RCD 971?? Just curious because I have an opportunity to pick one up for a reasonable price... $285 and in pretty pristine condition.

Any one have any other suggestions for players around this price point?

I bought a 971 about a year ago (for more than your opportunity), used it for nine months and sold it to a friend who is enjoying it very much. I bought a new 1072, and to tell you the truth, I don't hear much difference between the two. If I had it to do all over again I probably would have kept the 971. It is a nice deck...

Rotels CD players seem to be rock solid. I passed on my 16 yr old RCD-855 to my brother & it's still going strong!

The 971 is a pretty safe bet I sold a lot and saw very few come back , better on classical and jazz than outright rock but imo that is the Rotel sound.

              Upgrade RCD971 to 1072 or repair 971
              by adinfinitum
              Hi all,

Have seen a few people here over the years have upgraded (?) from RCD971 to 1070, but nowhere are there any conclusions that I can find.

My problem is that my 971 is experiencing the laser faults that seemed to plague some of the Rotel CD players of that vintage....

RR 969 - Are there defaults to control an RCD 971?
              by kjt
              Hi all-

I've posted a couple of times to this forum and have gotten some great advice. Now I am in a pickle. You see, I recently bought a Rotel RCD 971 on Audiogon sans the remote. I have an RSX 1065 with an RR 969 remote. I assumed I could use my RR 969 to operate the RCD 971 but...

              slightly disappointed with Oppo 971
              by sirbogey
My Oppo 971 crossed the Atlantic last weekend, so I hooked it up through the provided DVI/HDMI directly to the Panny 900U pj, both set to 720p. I got to admit, the picture seems to be marginally better than my Rotel DVD1060 (through component), but it didn't blow me away :B :M

              RCD-971 mods
              by Telstar
              Hello,

I own this cdp for many years and I'm quite happy with it.
A friend of mine told me that it can be modded to sound better. I googled for it and found some old threads at diyaudio and also this link (japanese):

              Internal bridging for RB-971
              by Jonesy
Well I've got my used 971 I won off ebay coming (it's in Ohio right now) and I'm wondering if anyone has performed the internal bridging operation descibed in the manual. I've never taken the cover off any of my electronics and while the procedure sounds simple I don't want to screw anything up. Is...
