I have the RSP 1068. It is about 2 months old. I was thinking about upgrading to the 1098. Can anyone tell me if there are any real differences between the two(besides the LCD)? I was told that the two have the same processor and that the sound is the same.

Save the money. The 1098 and 1068 are sonic equals, the 1098, however, is more user friendly due to it's LCD. My guess is that a replacement for the 1098 is not too far in the horizon since the refresh of the 1066 (the 1068) offers the basicly the same audio and video performance of the 1098 for a little more than half the price.- Bottom

I thought the 2ch performance (bypass) was a little bit nicer on the 1098 when I demoed the two side by side. It was enough for me to purchase it (along with the cool LCD, which I use a lot).
All in all though, if I had the 1068, I don't think I'd go up to the 1098, I'd wait till the next generation of pre's from Rotel.Digital Audio makes me Happy.

Here's a reply I received on this issue from Rotell:
There is a slight improvement in audio from the 1098. This unit uses relays instead of IC’s for switching which gives a better sound. The RSP-1098 also has three separate power transformers inside, one is a AC filter and then one is designated for the analog portion of the unit and the other is designated for the digital portion. The RSP-1098 uses 4 24/192 CS43122 DACs where the RSP-1068 uses 4 24/192 AK4395VF DACs. Other than that the functionality of the two units are the same.
All the Best, Steve- Bottom

I had the 1098 for one week. Although the 1066 is a wonderful unit, for my usage, ultimately, it was...-

by vertigoHi everyone. I've been looking seriously into Rotel components for the HT setup I'm wanting to get together. As of now I really like the features, etc. of the RSP-1098 and from what I've read on here, the better performance (?) it offers along with it's possible upgradability.
The one...-
