    RSP 976 or RSP 985?

which processor is newer? how is the bass management on both? Which one has the multi channel input? Also is 400$ a fair price for the 976?

Thanks in advance from a new member.

If I remember correctly, back in the day, their was about a $1K price difference between the two. In comparison to today's models, the 976 would be the 1068 and the 985 the 1098. I didn't compare the two, but would expect the difference to be in the same order as the difference between the 2 new ones.

I started out on a RSP-985. I 'upgraded' to the 1066 (which replaced the 976). While I got new features, sound quality took a good drop. So I would go for the 985, since it's basically the same features.

There's a thread here about firmware updates on the 985, if you get one check a make sure you have the latest.

Out at the same time period, but the 985 came first:

RSP985 Pre/processor, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, DTS, THX 1999-2001 $1999
          RSP976 Pre/processor, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, DTS, RS232 2001 $1199

If you go to Rotel's site and choose 'PRODUCTS-PRODUCT ARCHIVES' you can see years and prices for all their old prodcuts.

                Advice on RSP 976
                by luszer
Has there been comparisons on the 976 vs RSP 1066. Has anyone traded up to the 1066 from the 976, if so, what were the improvements over the older model. Have there been any issue with the 976 that I should be aware about, also, likes and dislikes.
One additional question: Is anyone using an...

                Rb-985?
                by june
                Hello All,

We are currently running Paradigm Studio 100's v2 & CC center with the Rotel RB-985 & RSP-1068. Will our sound improve if we upgrade to a more powerful Rotel amp? The 985 is 100 watts per channel. Will upgrading to the 130 watts amp improve the sound? Or jump up...

I have the opportunity to purchase a RSP-976 for $500. Or, I could purchase a new 1066 for approximately $1400. Given the situation described below, I'm tempted to get the 976, but only if the two-channel sound is not dramatically inferior to the two-channel sound of the 1066. If I get the 976, I can...

                Adding a RB 1070 to RSP 1066 & RB 985 combination
                by Ross Smith
Thanks to Rotel, I have just had my faulty RSP 976 replaced with a RSP 1066 running a RB 985 Mk 1, I couldn't believe how much smoother and detailed the sound is. No more do I have to squirm in my seat when listening to D/D music DVD's and the CD stereo performance has me tapping my feet and listening...

                RSP 1068 or Stereo Pre-Amp
                by Ross Smith
At present I have a RSP 1066 and the RB 985 power amp, previously I have owned the RSP 980 and the RSP 976. The 1066 is a nice smooth sounding Pr-Amp but compared with my other pre-amps I find it overly smooth. I would like a bit more bite in the treble region, with DVD's it's fine as it tames down...
