Optical lead falls out of receiver

Hi guys, does anyone know what is involved in repairing the plastic shroud and flap that covers the optical input connection on the back of Rotel receivers or other brands.

The connection works fine apart from the fact that the plastic flap and shroud are broken away and the lead just falls out.

Is this simply a case of buying a new shroud and placing it in ?
Or do I have to do serious surgery?

What do you reckon a repairer would charge for this job? it cant be very complex.

    Anyone done this before?

    thanks Pete

You will need to remove the boad and then de-solder the old optical jack and replace it with a new jack. That little door is next to impossible to get back in and have it work correctly. If you can do this level of soldering then you should be able to order the part directly from the Rotel parts department but if your unit is under warranty then I suggest that you have it done by a qualified technician.

ah! I see, there is a bit more to it than I thought!

I may send the receiver back, soldering is not my forte.

At least I now know whats involved in the repair job.

Thanks very much for the info Marlboroman, very helpful.
