I am currently using a Rotel RC-1070 pre, RB-1070 amp and source is RCC-1055 changer. I can either upgrade the pre to RC-1090 or the amp to RB-1080; either unit for around $850 new. Advice / suggestions welcomed.Best bang for the buck? The 'other' unit will probably be upgrade sometime in 2006.
Time to upgrade - need advice

Considering that the RC-1090 is discontinued in the US, you might have a hard time finding a new one later in 2006. So I would vote RC-1090. Keep in mind that the 1090 is a direct path, so if you enjoy using the tone controls on the RC-1070 you will lose that ability.

There are those who just refuse to accept the fact that audiophile sound can be had at Rotel's prices.Originally posted by minerWhy is it that posters over at Audiogon feel that Rotel is MidFi? IMHO Bang for the Buck is hard to beat with Rotel.
Rotel's reputation from many years back was that of low end in amongst the Pioneers and Sansuis of the world. Quality wise Rotel has come miles and miles since, but has never quite shook it's mid-fi image.Jerry Rappaport- Bottom

Well, my next step would have been Classe. A 200 watt/ch amp by Classe is $5000 - not in my budget now. A Rotel 200 watt/ch amp @ $900 is more in my 'beer budget'. I spent some of my budget last week in Cabo San Lucas, MX on my wife's 25th anniv. present - a 5 ct AAA+ Tanzanite ring with 1 ct of bagette diamonds. Now that is WAF!!!- Bottom

I second that. Too many Audiophiles feel that if it doesn't cost an arm and two legs, it can't be any good. They couln't be more wrong!Originally posted by DrJRappThere are those who just refuse to accept the fact that audiophile sound can be had at Rotel's prices.

Well, after contemplating and discussions with retailer I think I will hold off on my 'upgrade' - the $1800 + tax for amp & pre will not justify the sound improvement. If I would sell my current amp & pre for $800 (very optimistic) my net cost would still be $1000+. Comments are still welcomed and encouraged.- Bottom

by Jnorth1178I presently have the RC1070 and like it very much. Have the chance to get the discontinued RC1090 at good price. Will I see an appreciable sonic improvement in that upgrsde? Or, would you wait for the upcoming RC1082 and would anyone know at this point if the upgrade will mean better sound? I hear...-

by vifferboyHello
I just picked up a RC1090 from Audiogon, the unit is in excellent condition and sounds very nice. I had an RC1070 before which always seemed a bit bright to me, the RC1090 is very smooth.
Anyway the one small downer on the deal is that the seller failed to mention...-

by minerAnyone RC1090 users happy with the phono stage on the pre? I recently purchased a Rega P5, Exact2 cartridge and TTPSU (power supply unit) but have yet to hook up - need to rearrange. Just wanting some feedback on the quality of the phono stage. When I bought my first pre, RC1070, I bought because...-

by BicklehoffHi Folks, my first time here. I'm wondering what you think the next upgrade for my system should be (outside of starting all over). I bought all but the Amp around 2003 and the Amp around 2006 (I think I missed the fuse/channel issues). I am only a weekend warrior as far as understanding the equipment...-

by P-DubOkay, here's some basic assumptions on the minimum type of HT setup.
1. Have 5 speakers. I know some don't but if you want the full HT exeperience get those speakers.
2. Have a sub. Any sub regardless of performance is better than no sub.
3. Have a receiver that decodes... - Loading...
