1055 vs hk vs pioneer elite digital in

i compared a 1050 with a NAD 762 today and really liked the rotel. i am planning on buying the rotel 1055, i hear it is almost identical to the 1050, but i haven't tested the digital inputs yet.

has anyone tested the digital optical or coax inputs of the rotel against any other reveiver? specifically, i'd like to hear anything on comparisons with the HK AVR 630 or 7200, or any of the newer pioneer elite receivers, maybe the vsx-49txi or the 55txi. general comments on the digital inputs of the rotel are welcome.

i think the analog inputs are going to be great if they are similar to the 1050, but since i will be expecting to use the 1055 with dvd digital inputs and computer digitial sound, those inputs are going to be important also.

is this really just a silly question, or is it just beyond the experience of anyone here?

Hi jig, welcome to Club Rotel

I think you might have better luck posting this question in say A/V Chalet where they'll be more users with other products than Rotel to compare to.

I myself used to own a Yamaha RX-V1 and my 1066's (same internals as 1055) decoding to my ears is superior for DD and DTS. (Though there was quite a long period between the two) FYI, I use my Denon DVD-A player to decode CD's as I prefer it's DAC's to the 1066's, though only slightly. I might attribute that preference to the fact that the Denon only has an optical out for digital too so it might not be the DAC's as I tend to find optical to sound "dry".

jig if I'm reading you right, I say give all your options a fair shake. I have the Denon 2200, have the chance to play redbook via the digital coax or analog. I've tested both, with a few different samples of music. I personally chose to use the analog connection, based on my preference, and let the Denon handle the DAC responsibilities.

Try the same, draw your own conclusion. Your ears won't lie as to what you prefer.
