It only works when listening to Dolby Digital sources. (It's the same thing built in to most DVD players)

Thanks Kevin, I tried that. I get no response or confirmation of the function.

You do have to hit the AUD button at the top first if you are not in the audio remote mode. Otherwise, as long as the menu shows DOLBY DIGITAL as the mode, hitting it should cycle between MAX, MID, MIN.

OK. The menu up (in AUD) is:

          Listen:Video 2
          Vid Input:Video 2
          Record:CD
          Mode: Dolby Digital
          Input:Coaxial 2
          Vol
          Zone
          Spkrs, etc.

I depress the DYN button and "Dynamic" shows up on the remote, but nothing happens with the unit.

          I'm baffled

I don't think you want to be in the OSD. While playinng your material, push the AUD button on the remote, then cycle through with the DYN key.

When the DYN is pressed, The DYNAMIC shows in the remote window for a second, but no changes are prompted or noticed.

It *should* work. Could be the code in the remote is incorrect some how, or perhaps your DVD player is all ready applying a dynamic compression (and the 1098 can 'see' that it is).

Do you have a full 5.1 setup? If not, I know the processor can get taxed if it has to down-mix too many channels, perhaps taxed enough to not allow the dynamic compression to work.

Other then that, call Rotel support and see what they have to say.

Thanks. I got it to work. At least on a DD movie. It had to be into the DD program track, not on the PL intro. Maybe it won't work on DTS? I'll report back.

No, it only works in Dolby Digital mode.

                    Regards,

                      by grit
On my Rotel 1560, there are 4 settings for Dynamic Range Control (for Dolby Digital, True HD, etc). Min, Mid, Max, and Auto.

                      What does "auto" do??

Max means no dynamic range compression, correct?

I get how dynamic range control works, but aut...

Thoguh, I do not find it anymore. Neither on my harddisk nor on the web (it was a few years ago I d'lded it)....
