Hello all, I have a RCD 865 cd player from around 1992 which I am quite happy with.It was Rotels flagship model back then at $600 US.Has anyone gone from older Rotel players to a later model,and if so,was there a significant improvement?I am running it with 1066/1075 combo.

I has the RCD-865 for many years... It's still working and still a nice CD player in my sisters set-up... However IMO the RCD-1072 is a step up again in musicality - especially the sound stage which is much more separated out in the RCD-1072... Borrow one ans see..

The drive to pick it up would cost you more in fuel than the cost of a 1072.

About 3 years ago I researched reliability and malfunction problems in medium price CD players , and found a report of a Rotel player where the owner had complained of deterioration of sound quality over a not particually long term of use (I've forgotten how long , but it wasn't many years) .

Found some info on the new cd player.
Its from a german site called http://www.gute-anlage.de (translates into www.good-system.de), which is a site from the german distributor I think. They have the RCD1072 listed at 899 euro with the following text:
