RCD-951 intermittent tray problems

sometimes I put a disc in and it reads it immediately, other times it just spits it back out and only takes it after a few presses on the remote or opn/cls button on the unit.

has anyone come across the same problem? what could be the matter, and would it take a quick fix or a replacement part?

Could possibly use a good cleaning of the laser unit. I have no direct experience and due to the age of the unit you may not get immediate response.

I have one of Denon's older upper line units that started doing the same thing.
I took the top off and cleaned it up and the problem disappeared.
