    noise floor on 1055

I read that there was some more noise floor on the 1055/1065. But how bad is it? Because in my house the back speakers are not far away from my ears (1 m).
My last receiver (yamaha) i dropped because there was always a soft hissing on the back channels (not on the front) even when there was no signal feed to them.
Because some movies have only 3.0 sound, it isnt fun to watch a movie when you also hear a hiss on moment whens the mains/mains are producing little or no sounds. Wich happens a lot of times.
Also when listening late i have to listen on low volumes, the hissing is there througth the music/movie. So on my next there may not be any hissing :-) else i get crazy.

ps the hissing was always in 5 channel mode, never in stereo.

1055 has higher noise floor than the 1066 or the 1065 by 3 dB.
      Relatively.

This does not mean the 1055 is noisy. It is *very* quiet.
I like to view it as "1066 and 1065 are quieter".
You won't notice it unless you really crank it up.

There is no hiss from my surrounds or the back centers (finally got the 7.1 set up).

At low volumes, absolutely no hiss. Anywhere.

      Regards,

Right its relative to the true pre amp's that people make reference to the higher noise floor. I've had both in my system and in the real world both are very quite units and its a non issue out side the lab.

          No noise from mine too???

and a 3 channel (3.0 as you stated) is, I think, a Left and Right AND a Surround track, like the older Dolby surround encoded VHS...so your surround speakers should be active (in mono)...

          am I right on that??

Yep thats true, but a lot times that means that the rears are only active 5% of the time, just for effects like explosions.
So my yamaha (rsx520) was hissing the rest of the time 95%.
I send it back to yamaha but Y. said it was within the specifications, so they wouldnt do anything about it.

A amplifier can generate some hiss with the volume open at more then 50%. But i was was talking about the volume open at even a few %.

Tried other other cables, connetcions, speakers, etc. nothing helped, it was all in the amplifier.

If you put your rsx1055 in 5 channel mode, but give it no signal (set your cd/dvd on pause) with the volume open at lets say 30%, dont you hear anything hissing even with your ear to the speaker?

                1055/1065 Noise Levels?
                by steelgtr
                Hi

Just wondering how quiet the receivers are with nothing going on? One of the reviews of the 1065 I read said the noise floor wasn't the greatest. Any hiss going on with the volume turned up and no signal present?

                thx

Newbie needs help: RSX-1055 or 1065?
                by Ron67
I just wanted a little input regarding which unit would suit my needs better the 1055 or the 1065. I'm completely rebuilding my HT system and plan on running a pair of JM Labs Cobalt 816 mains & CC800 center, along with an SVS PC+ 20-39 Sub. I LOVE the sound of the ROTELs. They were noticibly cleaner...

                1055 vs 1065 differences ??
                by Peter Pilot
I currently have a Revox amp and Klipsh Chorus II speakers. I am looking for a Home Theater replacement of the Revox.
I am considering either the RSX-1055 or the 1065. Is there someone who had listened to both and can share his experience ?
Do they sound really different, and what are...

Hi all of you RSX 1055 and RSX 1056 owners,

Just wanted to say hi and thanks. Thanks for helping me decide on the Rotel 1055. I usually have buyer's remorse at least for a little while on any item I purchase above $100, but no buyer's remorse on my purchase of the 1055. Spent my time and researched it well. Looked at NAD (2nd choice), Denon,...
