    balanced input for RC1090

    Hello,

    I am in FRANCE. I bought a RC1090 pre amp and I would used balanced input on XLR connections.
    Please can you tell me if this amp uses :
    - the USA xlr system (1: GND, 2: COLD, 3: HOT)
    - or the European system (1: GND, 2: HOT, 3: COLD).

    My Cd player (marantz SA11S1) uses the usa system???

      You could pick one, then run the Avia set up disc, and if you know you're amp to speaker connections are phased correctly, that will tell you if the inputs are backwards.

          What does the switch do ? why does the manual say that both balanced and unbalance connections should not be used at the same time ?

          Although the Rotel RC1090 and RB1080 allow for either balanced or unbalanced connections, I believe I read somewhere on this forum that with Rotel gear there is nothing to be gained going the XLR route.
          Is this so? Why?
          I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a balanced pair of Nordost...

          I just picked up a RC1090 from Audiogon, the unit is in excellent condition and sounds very nice. I had an RC1070 before which always seemed a bit bright to me, the RC1090 is very smooth.

          Anyway the one small downer on the deal is that the seller failed to mention...
