    Purchasing Rotel Equipment dealer dilema!

    Hi All,

My frist post! I'm just about to buy the RSP1098 and RMB1095 (upgrading from previous Rotel equipment). When checking out dealers in London UK I've found 1 that will give me a 12% discount on my purchase, but another couple of dealers have told me that the particular dealer I'm thinking of purchasing from is closing down soon!

Do you all think it is worth purchasing from this dealer or going to another who is only offering a 5% discount but will be around for the next few years? I know that it won't effect my warranty as the dealer has to order the units direct from Rotel, but what about general after sales service? what do you all think?

    Cheers Audioholic

Get it from the guy closing down. Infact, ask him if he is closing (in a round about way) and tell him you think you should get a bigger discount (15 - 20%).

Once you buy the equipment, you are safe...you don't always have to go back to that dealer, you can go to any other dealer or straight to Rotel with your problems. Heck, use the old, "I just moved to London from xxxxx and its too much of a pain to send my unit there when you (whatever new dealer you go to) is so much closer, can you help?" I guarantee they will help you because they will hope to get your business on other equipment.

Get the discount! It's your hard earned money after all.

You will be happy with those two pieces by the way, I just purchased those last December and absolutely LOVE them! Make sure you have a decent DVD and especially CD player and your setup will make you want to sit all day and listen to it!

Hi Audioholic, and welcome to the club!

Nice choice in equipment... the tough decisions have been made already! :T As for your question, rumors of business failures are often generated by competitors, and can be taken with a grain of salt. It would sure be a shame if it was all rumor and your failure to purchase there contributed to the demise of the business.

If you feel the rumors are valid, then it comes down to what risks you are willing to take for what monetary gain.

      IMHO...

if the purchase is relatively small relative to your income, then spend a bit extra and you can have the piece of mind that you are safe from the inconvenience of shipping faulty equipment for repair yourself (paying for shipping).
However, if this purchase is big relative to your income, then the Scottish blood in me says take the 12% and run. Since the majority of failures in electronics tend to be in the first year, and the seller may be in business for a few more years, I think you are safe to deal with the business offering you the bigger discount. Of course you could go to a different dealer and tell them that you have been offered a 12% discount at a different store and see if they will match it. I usually like doing business with the dealer which offers me the best price first (not the one who price matches). :W

      Good Luck with your decision!

        Hi Guys,

Thanks for your opinions, much appreciated. I'll probably opt for the dealer that is offering 12% discount, even though they are closing down. Although I'm still on the look out for any dealer who can best that 12% discount rate!!!

        Thanks Audioholic

I would take the discount and not worry about it.

I would personally frown on going to the other dealers since they are talking about their competition rather than selling themselves.

There are no full proof businesses out there. Just about anything could close its doors at any given time. And this applies to those dealers as well.

Too hard to find Rotel equipment
            by Jarrod
I live in Nashville. Over one million people live here and we have several different high-end stores in and around the city - easily two or three times the number, per-capita, than San Diego where I lived previously. I guess this makes sense given that this city's culture (and economy) is largely...

Problem with warranty and local dealer
            by theMaximus
I took my RB-1070 to my local dealer with my original receipt from another dealer in New York, where I bought my equipment before moving to where I am now. My current local Rotel dealer told me that they would only handle warranty works for equipment bought from them. They told me to ship it to my...

These have now arrived at the dealer along with a raft of other high-end A/V stuff. Total bill ~$50K.

Okay I hate the fact that I have to buy Rotel from a Rotel dealer in my area. Here's the prime example of why.

            Research
I went into a Home Theater Store to discuss replacing my Pioneer Elite 55TXi and my Integra Research DTR-7.1 Receivers. I spoke to a salesman about the Rotel...
