G'day audiolab. I have not heard the Marantz, but have the 1072 and love it. Your very best option is to hear both for yourself. That way you can make your choice and spend your money based on your opinion. You sould also consider players from Arcam -similar level to the Rotel, but different sound. Listen and decide.
