    Bass management question RSP-1098

An apology if this has been answered before.

With reference to the bass management in the 1098, this is the first processor I have had with individual bass settings, and I am a little confused about the settings and how it works I fully understand the fundamentals when only having one setting across the board.

    In this scenario

    Mains set to 60Hz
    Centre set to 80Hz
    Surrounds set to 100Hz
    Sub set to???

My understanding of this scenario is that any signal below 100Hz going to the surrounds is redirected to the mains. Likewise any signal below 80Hz going to the centre is redirected to the mains. Then any signal below 60Hz including redirected bass below 60Hz from the other speakers then gets redirected to the sub.

In this scenario I would guess that the sub requires to be set at 60Hz is this correct?

From what I gather these settings only affect the redirected bass, and the sub xover freq is only for the redirected bass and does not affect the LFE signal.

Next question if this is indeed what is the case i.e. double redirection of bass do I need to add some extra delay to the sub?

Most likely, but each room and speaker setup is different. If your room kills sound 60-80hz, setting the sub to 80 could give you a little more umph to even it out. If your room boosts 40-60, dropping the sub to 40hz might tame this.. etc...

    Correct, LFE is not effected.

Nope, should be all taken care of in the processor.

    Enjoy!

      Thanks Kevin,

Just to clarify things in my mind, in the above scenario with the mains xover at 60hz and sub xover at 80hz there will be redirected bass from centre & surrounds going to both mains & sub which is possibly adding an addition 3~6dB in the 60-80Hz region for the surrounds & centre only, but because the mains have not been redirected until below 60Hz wouldn't this make the audio response out of whack?

My subs are EQ’d well in-room, I wanted to run my mains a little lower for music DVD, DVD-A & SACD’s, just wasn’t sure how the redirection was done, it would be nice if redirection only got sent to the sub when bass management was invoked and speakers set to small therefore you are not adding more bass/distortion in your mains.

Will have to have some more of a play, but I am beginning to think set speakers all the same as what other processors do to keep things simple.

I have sent an email off to Rotel to try and get some clarification on this bass management. I just can’t come to grips with what is happening to the redirected bass and what effect it has on the room response.

If I get time this weekend I will hookup the notebook and run some sweeps with ETF5 and see if that will shed any light on what is happening in room.

          My current set up:
          Rotel RC-1090 pre
          Rotel RB-1092 amp
          B&W N804 mains
          B&W ASW800 sub

Currently sub is connected directly to pre and sub corssover set at 60Hz. Mains get full signal from amp. Pre is hooked up to amp with one set of ICs and sub is hooked...

C2 Bass Management Questions Among Other Things
          by awtryau89
Before I start, let me say I have searched and read most all I could on this subject in this forum and could not come to a definite conclusion, hence the questions. Also I love the sound of this unit. I just "traded down" from a Lexicon MC-8 to save some money to put into theater seating and...

          Bass Management Setup
          by Stev
Hi, just got a few questions on setup for my RSX1056. I have got my mains xover at 60hz, center at 80hz, and surrounds at 100hz. To stop the sub sounding boomy its xover setting on the 1056 is at 60hz - with the sub's own xover set at max. If my understanding is correct all LFE goes to the sub unfiltered...

          quick 1066 bass management question

hopefully someone with a 1066 (or 1055) can answer this for me, as i'm still waiting for mine to arrive.

If the front speakers are set to LARGE, the center and surrounds set to SMALL, and the sub ON, is the bass below the crossover point sent to both the LARGE front speakers and the sub,...

          by MDJones
          Hello all!

My sonosub is complete, and I've had enough time to critically listen to the system. Put simply, the sonosub is incredibly powerful below 60 Hz. Every explosion, thump, etc. is room-pressurizing and makes every movie more realistic. However, I have a problem that I'm not...
