    Harmony remote with RSX-1056?

I have owned the RSX-1056 for almost a year but have never liked the remote - I have to reset every time I want to use the OSD, I sometimes have to enter commands multiple times, etc. I saw the Harmony remotes (659, 688, and 880) and was intgrigued by the Internet-based programming and seeming good flexibility and depth of programmability, at a reasonable price. (Yes, Andrew I know the Pronto is the Holy Grail of remotes, but it costs some ungodly coin - for a remote- IMHO).

Anyone have any experience/feedback using a Harmony remote as a universal remote? (it would also be controlling a Hitachi RPTV, Denon DVD player, and Motorola digital cable box)

I had the 659 at one point. Major problems. It controlled everything on my rsp-1068 but the volume. After struggling with tech support for 2 weeks they finally got it to work by manually updating my settings. But then it didn't work when I tried to copy it to the activities I wanted to setup. Plus if you have an htpc the setup for it to control your movies/dvds isn't very intuitive. I took the remote back. I would look into the home theater master mx series. I'm still looking but thinking about the mx-850.

I bought the 680, which was delivered last Friday.

But, the new HT with the 1056 is getting installed on Friday (in 4 days!!). Once it gets set up, I'll let you know what I think. It will be next week though.

I have a 659 and it works very well with my RSX-1055. The RSX could be a bit more responsive but it does work with the Harmony.

I've used a Harmony 768 for approx. 2 years with all of my equipment.
Works beautifully and smoothly. Highly recommended!

The 1068 remote is terrible and huge. Probably the same one the 1056 has. I got the 680 and love it. It controls everything in my system with no problems and it was only $135... I think.

I just got the 676 last week for use with a RSX-1055, Sony Projection TV, Denon DVD player, Motorola/Comcast cable box and a laserdisc player. The remote works great but it does take some effort to setup (the quick internet setup probably only works for basic configurations).

To get the most out of it I spent several hours over the last few days changing, uploading and testing the settings. Some quick tips are use discrete on/off settings if they aren't automatically mapped rather then a single power toggle (my Motorola box, 6200, only supports power toggle). Also play around with the default delay settings, so clicking on the remote matches with the response of the component. It also helps to have the full user manual, which you have to download from the site as only a quick guide is included with the remote. The harmony forum at www.remotecenteral.com is also helpful.

The only criticism I have to date are the buttons could be more solid or tactile in feel and the buttons for the LCD options are not easy to select and are best left for less used functions.
