Pricing on used RSP-1066?

I'm trying to convince myself to upgrade my pre/pro and I don't believe there's any doubt I'll be looking for a 1066. With the 1098 out now I figure there ought to be some good broke-in 1066's on the market.

What pricing should I be looking for on a used unit?

Do you know anyone looking to sell their unit?

$1225 seems a tad high for a used unit. If I'm remembering correctly a new one is only around $1250, maybe less.

Sonnie,

Usually, dealers will provide 10-18% off on Rotel gear depending of the retailer. A few things you may want to check before purchasing:

1) Ensure that the firmware version is at least 2.2x (hold the mute button to check).

2) The video bandwith is 200MHz.

3) If you purchase from the dealer you should get the RR-950 remote, instead of the RR-969.

4) If utilize SACD, or DVD-A there is a mod that must be performed to ensure proper bass management for the multi-inputs (your authorized dealer may be able to perform the mod and software upgrade v.2.26).

If you are concerned with purchasing on the internet, for the few extra dollars you can get it brand new from an authorized retailer, I would execise that option for the peace of mind.

Just sold my 8 months old RSP-1066 for 1400$ CDN (hey, bought it for 1600$ CDN...hehehe).

So it's easy to score a nice deal on this unit. I decided to post locally on a forum, and I always get a better price then ebay or Audiogon for my gears, because you can meet the buyer locally. :LOL:

Hi Sonny,

Make sure you check out your local Rotel retailers. With the 1098 out, there should be quite a few trade ins over the next few months. If I was buying a used Rotel 1066, I'd personally be looking at a price closer to $1000. I got my 1066 new for $1249, so I'd just buy a new one if it was over that price. Remember, although Rotel is nice about things, the warranty isn't transferable, so this alone would justify the extra cost for me.

Also, Azeke gave very good advice on what to look for.

Hmmm... well that pretty much made up my mind for me. If the warranty is non-transferable then I don't believe I'll be looking for a used one.

Okay, I got a dealer that will do $1200 shipped from north Florida. I figure that's about as good as I'll find. He did say he had a floor unit (demo) that he would do for less but I'll stick with the first one.

The dealer did verify the unit is version 2.2 and gave me the serial # to verify the video bandwidth with Rotel.

Azeke, he stated the remote was the 969 and not the 950. He just got this unit in about 3 weeks ago. Did you get those backwards in your post maybe? I looked at Rotel's site and it shows the 969 as the remote that comes with it. Maybe they haven't updated their site.

I tried to get up with Rotel but it seems they only have one tech who can answer questions and he was on the line and had one holding. I call back later.


I also noticed on Rotel's site they offer the software upgrade cable for $12 now. I had read $30 somewhere in another post.

That's kind of why I was curious. The company I work for is a Rotel dealer and the overstepping of the boundries is a big no-no. I hate to see Rotel get pimped out like everything else. Though to their credit, Rotel does an awesome job of controling things.

We don't mind shipping and do give pretty good deals, but we do require a visit and payment in the store. There's two dealers in Bama (Birmingham and Huntsville) listed on Rotel's site, and I was pretty sure there was one in Mobile (we get several 'complaints' about them). If you're getting the quote from the dealer in Pensacola, that's probably close enough to be ok, but anywhere else I would be careful, they may not be a Rotel dealer long enough to give you support.

I'm not chastising you in anyway, Lord knows we all look for deals. You did contact the dealer (ie, he wasn't advertising), so if you develope a relationship with him its good enough for me.

Maybe check around and see if any other dealers are within driving distance (Hattiesburg) and can still give you a pretty good deal..

Yup, good ole USM is on HDnet this weekend.. Might have to go to the shop and check it out..

Welcome to the forum Gil. You should be able to get 10 to 15 percent off list on a new 1066 pretty easily with most dealers and as Sonnies found out there might be a little more room to move with the 1098 around and used stock coming in.

lol Kevin! I see why you wanted to know now. Ironic... I seem to remember calling a Rotel dealer in Hattiesburg back when the 1066 came out. If memory serves me correct (I could easily be mistaken), he quoted me $1350, again, that was a long time ago.

Keep in mind that I definitely don't want to get anyone in trouble. I feel comfortable about who I'm buying from and I believe my reasons justify it. Maybe!

Audio/Video Specialist in Birmingham. I had a bad experience with this fellow. Back in the early 90's I purchased my first big screen (61" Sony), a Lexicon CP3+, Snell B-Minor speakers, and some more stuff, all in all about $10K of equipment. I drove all the way to Birmingham and auditioned the B-Minors (in his home) and drove them home with the promise that I'd get my Sony within the next couple of days. It took a month. I didn't want to have the responsibility of delivery so I waited on him. He had promised that he would send someone to properly calibrate my set when he delivered it. That didn't happen. I had several arguments with him on the phone during all this to no avail. I gave up. A few years later I figured what the heck, forgive the fellow. I contacted him to consider purchasing another product from him and to let him know there were no hard feelings. He was rude. Bottom line, I refuse to deal with him. Plus, he'd probably want to charge me full retail.

Huntsville is too far... that's almost Tennessee and I live in LA. Although I did call them anyway. I left my name and number but received no return call. I still don't believe I'd drive to Huntsville.

Mobile would be good. My brother works in the Coast Guard and is there 4 days a week. He could actually pick up the unit for me. But if you have heard complaints then I don't know. Plus I would obviously want the best deal.

The fellow in Pensacola didn't have any black ones in stock. I believe he's the one that told me the retail was $1699 and he'd sell it to me for $1499... hee hee Not my idea of someone I'd like to deal with.

Let's see, there were none in southwest Georgia I don't believe. Tallahassee, nope. I may have forgot some area codes. Where's my phonebook with those area codes? lol

What I'd really like is a Rotel dealer in Montgomery or Dothan, then I wouldn't mind driving, but no such luck. It's a shame... but then again I save tax (10% in Montgomery).

Now, Hattiesburg... ooh.. still 5+ hours from me. Either way there's really not a dealer within driving distance for me. I hate driving. I'd rather good ole UPS handle it.

Usually when I make a mail order purchase I don't expect much from the dealer after the sale. If I purchased a 1066 from your dealership, what is it that you could do for me that Rotel couldn't? Why not just deal with the manufacturer for warranty if and when ever needed? I'm by no means dogging the dealer but why bother if unnecessary. About any question I need answered can be done here in this forum... Hey, obviously I like chatting on the forums. lol No need to worry the dealer... let him sell more units and make up for the money he didn't make on me.

Maybe I should get a better deal than the walk in customer. Usually I'm gonna research what I want and my mind is made up prior to purchasing. It's an easy, painless, and quick phone sale for the dealer. Sounds logical enough for me.

You know what I mean.

Now, if I lived near a Rotel dealer all that could change. Maybe I could start a relationship with the dealer, buy more products, etc. But geeze, I just don't want to have to drive 3-6 hours everytime I want to buy a piece of equipment; you know? Just about every piece of equipment I've purchased can not be found within a couple of hours drive of me. I guess there's just not the big demand for it in the rural areas of Bama. Too many hillbillys down here.

All this being said, we should at least talk.

Here in asia the Warranty is always base on the Warranty card that they issued to a customer and no matter whos the 1st owner the Dealer will always honor it, all they need is just the Warranty card and dont even bother about the name on the card as long as the date is not expired yet. Usually its about a year.
For you guys info if you decided to get a new set of 1066 Rotel already change the remote to a newer version that is RR-1050 a few months ago.
Not to make you guys jealous but here in asia the Rotel 1066 cost around US dollars $1000 new and normally if somebody here decides to dump their used equipment it can go about half the price from the original that the 1st owner bought it.

Getting 10-15% off is not necessarily that easy, and this is due to Rotels policy of protecting their dealers (which I understand and agree with). My local Rotel dealer charges list for everything, unless you go in and buy a boatload of stuff. They do not budge, because they do not really have to. If I want Rotel, but not the dealer, I have to drive a good 60-90 minutes one way to dallas. So, I have to spend maybe 3 hours out of my day to get the 10% off.

Just an FYI. I was able to easily get 10% off an RSP-1066/RMB-1075 @ The Home Theater Store here in Houston. If you have to make a modest drive to Dallas to get the gear @ retail, you could always make a day trip to Houston and know that you could get at least 10% off.

Thanks for the info I really do appreciate it. I am in Fort Worth, and the local dealer is 5 minutes away. I could go to Dallas and get 10% off, but the idea of driving over and fighting traffic is not appealing. A lot of people in Ft Worth must feel the way I do, because the local dealer will not budge. On the other hand, I could wait for the holidays when they have their "big sale" and then they take 10% off list.
