    ROTEL UPGRADED, PROBLEMS

Hello everyone. Here's the deal. I sent my Rotel 1066 out to have the BM management mod done and the firmware upgraded. I just got it back yesterday and finished hooking it up today.

    Here is the problems:

The screen on the unit itself isn't coming on. I only have the OSD on the television. I can't figure it out.

The unit plays, but I hear some distortion in the sound, I think, but i've yet to set everything up perfectly.

    Any ideas, please help....

Okay, this is weird to me, but maybe someone can help me figure out why.

The screen on the unit is now on. I didn't hold down any buttons, but what I did do was turn the power on to the subwoofer. I had it hooked up, but no power to it because I forgot. Would this cause the screen on the unit, not to come on?? It seems to be working fine now, but I'm still concerned. Anyone have any ideas for me?

    Thanks,
    Shane

      Heck, yes, it's weird.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how it can have any connection with the sub being on or off. Sounds more like a loose connection somewhere. Maybe something got jarred loose when it was being worked on or shipped. I'm sure they flipped the switches into the normal position when they finished with the firmware upgrade.

      Is the distortion still there?

I'd really call Rotel tech support right away to see what's up and to at least get it on record that you received it back from the company in this condition.

Hopefully, one of the engineer types around here will be able to explain what's going on.

That is weird! The first thing i'd check is that the two dip switches on the back are in the correct position...which I believe they are if its now working but one might not be seated properly. The only other way to turn off the display is to press and hold the menu button but that shouldn't be the problem either unless you did it accidentally.

I'm waiting to hear back from Rotel now. Mike Sheenan emailed me backed and asked a few questions, but he has not heard of this happening either. I'm also waiting to hear back from him about the popping noise. I'll let you know if we figure anything out.
          Thanks,
          Shane

            1098-upgraded to wrong version
            by orangebull
I made a dumb mistake when I didn't read Rotel's website in close enough detail and upgraded my Rotel 1098 to the latest 3.1.5. Although I must admit even after reading the instruction it is not very clear.

My unit originally had 1.xxx on it. The only problem that I have noticed after...

... to my disappointment, it will not be the theatrically released 1:66 wide screen. Though Shane was originally shot using the standard 1:37:1 Academy ratio, Paramount had invented their own flat widescreen format and chose Shane to debut it because Shane was mostly composed of long and medium shots...

Weird ticking noise with DVD Recorder & Cable Service

I just purchased a Toshiba DVD recorder/VCR combination which is hooked up to a digital cable box, primarily so that I can time shift programs. Whenever the unit is in DVD mode and I switch channels on the cable box, there is an annoying, rapid "ticking" noise that occurs during the couple...

            Hi all,

I am considering buying an new RCD-1072 for CD Playback.

Later on, I would like to switch to a Rotel DVD player, too (just for the looks of it, because the new players from Denon offer more bang for the buck).

Since at some point in time I would like...
