    question on setup

new to the forum, so i'd like to say hello to all. i'm considering a rotel system
(stereo) and will audition the rcd-1072, rb-1090 and 1080, and the rc-1090.
my first question is on the rb-1090 amp, do these amps have to be driven
pretty good to sound right or will they sound good at lower levels as well?
my second question is, i have an older pair of dahlquist dq-10's. has anyone
experienced rotel matched with dq's? my dq's have been upgraded with
the regnar stuff if your'e familiar with those modifications. thanks

I love my Rotel gear but for 2-ch and at the RB1090's price point, there's better options out there IMO....

Try posting in Audio Hideout for some suggestions on 2-ch gear.

You may also want to investigate the Benchmark Dac1 which would be a valuable addition as well.

      I have a 1080 and a 1072 player. I run them with B&W 703 speakers.
I am very happy overall. They sound fine at lower levels but really
come to life when turned up and the whole room is filled with music.
Having said that we often use the system for background music playing
classical , jazz, and some new stuff like Tosca while entertaining or
      having meals.
When the wife leaves I crank up rock and its amazing to
hear music ive been listening to for 25+ years in a whole new way. It
brings out some great stuff and even some flaws in the recording.
Still, I have never been able to bring the volume up even to half way.
      I hope this is helpful

The 1090 is a little shy at low volumes but a beast when you crank it up. Bass on mine was weak at low volumes. Thje RC-1090 is an AWESOME pre-amp and a bargain at $1200. Easily comparable to models twice as much!
:B It's all about the MUSIC!!!

thanks everyone and sorry it took me so long to get back to you. and to mitchel, i
think i know what you mean about the 1/2 way volume. ha. i've got an old dc kenwood
thats 90 per channel and i can't turn it up past 1/2. loud enough! it's just that the ol' girl (not the wife) is tired. it's time to escape to a little high end. so many brands, so
little time. have more questions, will post on audio hideout. thanks again.

Heard the RB1090 and RB1091 side by side...
            by Joey_V
Today, I just got back from hearing the 1090 and 1091/1092 amps duke it out with the BW802D... side by side. I must say, I preferred the RB1090 by a good margin. I thought that the 1090 took better control of the 802D in ALL aspects, from the bass to the diamond tweeter. The 1090 had greater stage...

            Rb1080 trade-up to RB1090
            by AA6US
I recently bought an RB1080. My speakers are 2.5 ohms, and I have to put a 200W non-inductive resistor in series with one side of the speaker cable to bring it up to 6.5 ohms, which the RB1080 handles just fine (It did NOT like 2 ohms and now I see in the specs the RB1080 works only down to 4 ohm, not...

I'm going to write a little bit about these 2 Rotel amps from my experience with both in my system at the same time.

            Setup:
            SqueezeBox3 -> Rotel RC1070 preamp -> Rotel RB1070/Rotel RB1090 -> Martin Logan Summits -> Joey's ears

            Build:

            rmb1095 &rb1090 troubleshooting query
            by carlsen
I've just assembled a system, consisting of using a denon 3805, running preouts to an rb1090 and a rmb1095 ( unbalanced).

I am only getting weak sound out of the main right and left front but nothing out of the other five speakers which are connected to the Rmb1095.

            I read...

            I currently have a Rotel Rb1090 driving two Aussie mainspeakers ( Vaf I-93 Signatures ) and a Rotel RMB1095 driving the centre and 4 surrounds ( Vaf I-91's ).

I am awaiting delivery of a singular horizontal version of the mainspeakers ( I-93) to replace my current centre channel. Now,...
