No you shouldn't need the outlaw providing your DVD player has its bass management configured properly. I'm looking at the Denon 2900 at the moment as a potential unit to replace my Denon 1600. Ideally the BM should be done in the receiver/pre amp but that requires a digital link and as of now there still isn't a standard digital interface for SACD and DVD-A...though Pioneer has a propritory link called iLink to do that. For us though just make sure your 1066 has the resistors cut and the latest firmware installed and that the bass management works properly in the player and you'll be set.

thanks, Andrew. i just went back and read the previous thread with this question intertwined into it.

i just don't want to part with the 1066 for a short period of time while it's serviced for the resistors... if i had run across this topic earlier, i'd have planned to send it away while i went on vacation.

i assume i'll have to send it back to rotel and not drop it off at an authorized dealer?

if you go through with the denon, i'd be interested in hearing your review... i'm contemplating holding out for newer generations as well. lots of talk about today's universal players not handling certain issues well.

I'm curious about the current universals as well. There seems to be the top tier ones like the Onyko, Denon and Yamaha and then a slew of budget ones like the Pioneer's etc each with their own issues etc.

I own the Denon DVD-2900 and Rotel RSP-1066. I had Rotel of America perform the BM modification and update the firmware. There are now ZERO issues in regards to bass management for SACD and DVD-A in my system.

The Denon 2900 is a very nice piece of equipment. I purchased it 80% for it's hi-rez MCH capability and 20% for it's progressive scan video capability.

I've not been let down in either department. SACD and DVD-A discs sound absolutely stunning. Movies look the best they've ever looked in my system. It's got many nice features, such as the ability to turn off all video circuits, digital outputs, and the display when listening to music, is built sturdy, and has almost perfect bass management. The only issue with the Bm seems to be a difference in the output level of the analog LFE or SUB output relative to the other 5 channels. It seems that it's lower but the Rotel can completely compensate for it.

I used my ears to tweak that channel, since there is no definitive
DVD-A test disc and no SACD setup/test disc at all.

Bass Management...what's a person to do?
            by Andrew Pratt
There seems to be a lot of talk lately on what bass management should or should not be doing. It also seems that there are a lot of assumptions being made about what, where and how this BM should be invoked. I came across a few links that are interesting and suggest that the problem isn't with X but...

            DVDA/SACD Connections to 1066
            by Mike Hayes
I am considering purchasing a Pioneer 563A ($180) universal player to replace my Toshiba SD5700. I am currently using just the digital connection (not using the 5 analog cables for DVDA). This will be my first experience with DVDA/SACD in conjunction with my 1066 so please bear with me.

            Bass Management -- Help Me.
            by HowardGjr
Hi...I'm new to the club and finally got the system setup last weekend. However, I'm still pretty confused about Bass Management.

Does this setup seem correct given the current state of 1066 firmware? Is there an alternative configuration that might sound better? Is there an impact...

1066 owners – I ‘m asking for advice! I’ve had an RSP 1066 on order since May, when the initial shipment to Australia sold out.

Now ‘my’ unit is due to arrive in Oz in just a week – and Rotel still has not corrected the bass management issues in the firmware.

            1066 BM setup

Hi! New to the forum, as I just got my 1066/1075 combo last week.
I'm glad I found this site, because I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to do my bass management.

            My equipment is as follows:
