New gear (1068+1075), too stupid to get any sound?

Trying to setup my 1068 and 1075. Have my interconnects going from the preouts on the 1068 into the 1075 and the 1075 is on (with no protection lights lit).

No matter what type of source i try (analog w/ an ipod, optical with my dvd player), I can't seem to get a peep out of the speakers.

Even the 1068's test tones don't utter a sound.

I disconnected every speaker but my 2 fronts, and still nada. Am I missing something here??

Hm, I put my voltmeter on 2 of the terminals while the amp and dsp were on, and I don't get any output, any ideas? My receiver sees the bitstream from the dvd player because it shows the appropriate icon on the display, but its almost as if its not outputting to the preouts.

If i crank the volume all the way up (90+) I hear some hum, but thats it.

Do you have the 12 volt trigger set to "on" on the amp? If so you need to go into the menu and have the sources drive that trigger channel, (1, 2, or all). Or turn the toggle switch on the back of the 1075 to "off" and run it w/o remote tigger, just turn the amp on and off via the power button.

Tried both. Had the 12v setup, and the amp would turn on (protection lights would flash for a second). Had a feeling maybe I didn't have it setup right, so i unplugged the 12v and turned the switch off.

I turned the amp on manually, with nothing attached to the 1068 but a pair of RCA into CD, and CD set to analog, and then ran L/R to the amp from the preouts.

        Nada.

Anyone else have any ideas? I am at a loss. I tried resetting my 1068 to defaults, that didn't matter. I tried input via rca from my tivo, rca from an ipod, optical from a dvd player, and I can't seem to get anything.

The amp is ON, but it doesn't seem to be trying to power the speakers, at least I can't seem to pick anything up with my meter. I just got this thing today brand new

Not going to say WHY I'm suggesting this, but are you sure you are plugging into the pre-outs and not the multi-in's? Like I said, I won't say why I'm asking this... If you have it right, it's probably DOA.

Yeah, I'm sure its plugged into the preouts. Hm, I guess I am going to have to lug it to a local rotel dealer to verify that its DOA. I'm going to be a sad panda if it is!

Ensure all cables are fully seated including your speaker cables.

                Just my quick thoughts,

This sounds like the trigger issue, as in a switch isn't switched either in back, or the power button on the front isn't pushed in (or the proper combination of same). This happened to me when I first hooked up my 976 and 1075 many years ago. Re-read the the owner's manuals and make sure all your trigger settings are correct.

Thats what i thought, so i turned the trigger switch off, and unplugged the cable. Power cycled the amp.

When you turn the amp on (button in), the blue light goes on, and the protection lights blink for a split second (not like when you turn it off and they fade out).

I unhooked everything but the L/R Front preout interconnects and the L/R front speakers (after making sure they were securely connected), then jacked my ipod into the analog rca on my receiver.. still nothing

Here's a dumb question, but you are sure you have the input settings on the 1068 set up to whatever you are inputing? Like for the Ipod on whatever Selection you are using, it's set for analog, vs it being coaxial or optical on that input?!

So if you have the iPod connected to your CD Input, in the menu you are using the analog setting?!!??!?

Yup, CD from analog (w/ ipod), DVD player via optical 1 (verified that the 1068 sees the bitstream cuz it goes into DD), and tivo via analog too. I even went so far as to go into cd and cycle through every input just to make sure.

From your last post, if I have the 12v trigger set to on and hit the power button up front, that's when I get protection lights to blink for a split second. Where as when I turn it off and turn the power on, they come on for about 2 to 3 seconds then go off...

I'm wondering if your 12v trigger is not working so the am is never truly turning on?!

...but it does sound like you have everything hooked up correctly!

Well theres 2 times the protection lights flash.

Since the power light stays on when the 12v trigger is on, when the 12v trigger turns the amp OFF, the protection lights come on for a second or two then fade out (so you know you turned it off).

I tried disabling the 12v trigger entirely just to make sure it wasn't the problem, and it didn't do anything. I don't even get test tones in the 1068's menu.

I'm thinking this thing is either faulty or got damaged in shipping somehow. The UPS people here in the city are brutal to say the least :/

You can easily humm test the amp, unplug the rca's from the back of the pre,
touch the center pin on the cable briefly and it should humm pretty good thru that channel. Dont touch the outer connector and dont be grounded as this defeats the purpose. This will tell you if it's amp or pre. It's electrically safe, can just be a little harsh on the ears.....

Maybe you could try using the zone 2 preout to two of the inputs on the 1075. See if you get any sound then. Just make sure the 1068 is set to zone 2. Worth a try.

Hm. I tried hum testing one of my channels, and I got the hum.

Ok, so if its not my amp, what on gods green earth could keep my 1068 from outputting anything?

I am so boggled. If i do the hum test, and hear hum, then my amp is on and powering my speakers.

I have the interconnects on the preouts, not the multi input, what on earth could be the problem with this thing? Even resetting it to defaults (both remote and dsp) don't seem to make a difference.

Is it possible that the 1068 is bad in some way? The video output from my DVD player or tivo looks great..

Could be any number of bad pieces. Have you tried the full analog bypass mode? I had a damaged digital board one time and would only get output analog in a straight analog out. Anytime a signal had to go through the digital board, nothing came out.

Kyle, if you haven't resolved it yet......I bought a used RSX-1055 off of e-bay, great machine except the 12 trigger didn't work. I took my meter and found no matter what the settings it wouldn't output 12vdc. I popped the cover off to discover the cable that sources the 12v was unplugged, it was allmost a tad short, but, I got my trigger back. You could pop the cover, and do a quick scan for the obvious. I wouldn't recomend removing any screwed down boards, just peek and see if a connector is unplugged. It is a new unit so I guess this is a judgement call, if you don't feel up to it then I wouldn't and risk the warranty.

                                                  Hi everyone,

This is my first post. I just purchased a Rotel RMB-1075 last weekend along with B&W 704s and an HTM7.

I wanted to use 4 of the amps channels for the 704s, and am wondering how I would do the cabling to go from my receiver's preouts for left and right...

                                                  RMB-1075 and only 2 speakers?
                                                  by Jonas78
Another stupid question from me: :T

Is it "safe" to run only 2 speakers on a RMB-1075?
Or will something "unexpected" happend? Like blow a fuse or something?

I have wanted a Rotel amp for some time and because my wife does not understand my home theater obsession, I bought one used from Craigslist. I had asked the only owner all kinds of questions and finally bought it. It came with a like new manual, untouched warranty card amd two T6.3 250V(I think that's...

                                                  Hiyas everyone.

I found this place about a month ago but I've just been lurking. Finally decided to unmask myself and ask a few questions.. hopefully not too stupid I'll get laughed at.

I recently purchased a RDV-1040 DVD player to go along with my new TV, a Toshiba 34HFX84...
