Hi all,
I'm now the proud owner of some new Rotel gear - an RSP1068, RMB1075 and RB1070. Thanks to all of you for answering my questions in this forum over the past few months - this really is a great little online community. I'll be posting some pics in the next week or so, after I've finished outfitting my home theatre room. I have a couple of questions:
1. My 1068 is sitting directly on top of my Denon 2900 dvd player - they are sitting in a cupboard, with about 5 inches of clearance between the top of the 1068 and the next shelf up. There is only an inch clearance to each side and about 4 inches at the rear. The top of the Denon 2900 is warm to the touch, but the top of the 1068 is quite a bit warmer - ie - almost too hot to touch on top if you leave your hand there for more than 3 seconds. Is this normal? The 1070 is sitting atop the 1075 and they become only slightly warm.
2. Swapping between an NTSC and PAL DVD causes the picture to flicker. The DVD is connected via component video to the RSP1068, and then fed through component video out to a projector. The Denon 2900 'TV type' is set to MULTI (ie to accept PAL and NTSC). If the 1068 is set to accept a PAL signal and a PAL DVD is loaded, no problem. But if i swap to an NTSC disc, I get the flickering problem. The same thing happens if i reverse the above - ie 1068 set to NTSC and a NTSC disc loaded = no problem, but if i swap to a PAL disc while the 1068 is still set to NTSC, the flickering occurs on the PAL disc.
I can alleviate this flickering problem by simply selecting PAL or NTSC on the 1068 before i load the corresponding disc. Even though this problem can be solved, is there any way the 1068 can be set to an 'auto' TV type, so i don't have to change between PAL and NTSC settings? Its a little thing, but its kinda annoying. Are any other Aussies who are part of this forum experiencing this same problem with their 1068?
3. A silly question that probably derserves a silly answer.....the RB1075 and RB1070 are connected via 12V triggers to the 1068. Whenever the 1068 is turned off, the amps soon power off as well, but as they do so their protection circuitry LEDS light up for about 5 seconds, then slowly fade. Is this something to worry about?
NOTE: I do not get the above flickering problem if i run the dvd component cable directly into the projector and bypass the 1068.
Apologies for the long post - i did a quick search on the PAL/NTSC issue before posting this topic but couldn;t find what i was after. Besides the small issues outlined above I'm really happy with my purchase. Coupled with my Paradigm Monitor speaker package things sound sweeeet!
Thanks in advance,
Nick
