all is ok with coax cable for stereo, I get a good stereo image and soundstage
but when I swith to CD analog bypass mode I get no more soundstage and no image I am really PISSED at this 1098
can someone try this if you get the same or I have a defect in my 1098
because I am ready to change it (big money and no sound)
All interconects good quality 100$ really pissed ops:

First you should compare the bypass mode with the analog stereo mode (select this with the D-SLT button on the remote if necessary).

This to make sure that the problem is not with the analog output or the DAC of the Denon (when you use the digital out you are not using the DAC of the Denon but instead the DAC of the 1098 ).

If the difference is still there the problem is with the Rotel 1098 .

Comparing analog to digital is like comparing apples to oranges.
It's plain and simple, the device with the best DAC's will sound better.
If you denon has better DAC's it should sound better analog, if the 1098 is better then digital is the way to go.
Mine has better soundstage with analog, using a Rotel RCD1072 cd player and high-end interconnect. (won't mention name, mustn't break forum rules)
Digital interconnect is about the same pricerange and same brand, so it's definately the DAC's making the difference.

        1098 and Bypassmode

        1) D-SLT button on the remote
I did this swith from digital to analog

        2) Comparing analog to digital is like comparing apples to oranges
        I know about this to

3)the device with the best DAC's will sound better
I know about this to also

I tryed also a Meridian 507 CD very good DAC very highend divice
and in analog its one of the best
still I find its real crap the Rotel 1098 in analog bypass mode (not in stereo)

so for shure there a problem with 1098 in bypass

Try using the multichannel inputs and see if that improves it at all. I haven't notice my bypass mode not being anything but stellar which might imply yours has a problem.

Question about Analog Bypass on RSP-1098
              by vsarathy
              All,
I have been thinking of getting the Rotel 1072 CD player. As it has very good DACs on board, I intend to connect to my RSP-1098 controller with analog cables.

There is a section in the manual that says that all analog inputs are upconverted to digital signals. It seems to...

              Hey Guys-

I have a JVC HM-DH30000H D-VHS VCR on Video 4 connected via component video 4, optical audio 2, and the analog audio/video 4 inputs. Everything works as expected when playing D-Theater HDTV video tapes (except for no video on the 1098 screen). The JVC will not pass an analog...

Some questions about my new RSP 1098
              by Ossi
I am in process of comparing my new RSP 1098 with my Denon AVC A1SE+.
I have a question regarding hiss on the unit. At which level do you users experience hiss from your listening position? I can hear it from 3 meters starting slowly at about 70 to get real loud hiss at 85. And I mean real loud....

              Firewire upgrade for 1098?
              by Tom Bombadil
As an owner of the 1098 and a Denon A11, I have been wondering whether Rotel could or would offer an upgrade to the 1098 to give Firewire (IEE1394) connectivity?

I am assuming that due to the modular nature of the 1098 that this should be easier to implement than pre-pro's of a closed...
