    Which Rotel DVD player?

    Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new DVD player and I was thinking of the RDV-1040, the RDV-1050, or one of the new Denon players. My dealer wants to sell me a rotel to match the RSX-1056 I already have, but I get the feeling he's giving me the runaround. Before I start auditioning these things I'd like to hear from anyone who owns a RDV-1040, RDV-1050, or those new Denon Players. Are the rotel players worth the extra cash? I do movies more than music, are the DVD audio players a frivolous extra?

    thanks for the help,

    Joelp,

If you don't do any critical dark room listening to music, yes, DVD audio (and SACD) are frivolous. They seem to be unavoidable in most machines, which makes the RDV 1040, and the Denon 1910 (similar price, with similar specs), comparible options. If audio is not as important to you, you might also consider a Pioneer DVD recorder (The DVR 320-S) at about the same price.
It is all about balancing your own personal priorities. My priorities, which weigh heavily on the audio quality side, led me to the RDV's.
Good luck in your decision making.

Also, if you don't have a digital display, you might be able to save even more money by going with Denon's last year DVD players, such as the DVD2200 and DVD2900. You can get the DVD2900 at a much better price now.

DVD-A and SACD's "high rez" audio my be frivolous, but many of the discs in those formats come with some very excellent 5.1 mixes. Not gimmicky..."oooh...the drums are behind me crud...I mean really excellent immersive mixes. I've been gobbling up 5.1 discs a lot lately. They just sound great!

If DVD-A is not important to you, I wouldn't sweat too expensive a player. Odds are you'll be feeding movie audio digitally to your 1056 and letting it decode surround sound.

            Ordered the RDV-1040

Well I ordered my rdv-1040 yesterday, I'm pretty excited to see the difference versus my current no-namer player.

            thanks for the input!

Universal player: Denon DVD2900 vs. DVD2200
                by nisoli
My 3 year old DVD player (Toshiba SD5109) died and I'm in the market for a new DVD player. I'm thinking about a universal player. I checked the specs for the Denon DVD2900 and the new DVD2200. The 2200 is significantly cheaper (MSRP of $ 629 vs. 999) and have pretty much all the features of the DVD2900,...

RDV1050 and problem with "spikes" on the 220v

I´m having a VERY annoing problem using the RDV1050 DVD. -Whenever I (or my neighbour for that matter) switch the light on/off in my/his apartment (or my refrigiator turns on/off), the sound dissapear shortly, as if the RDV1050 loses sync (Via coax) to the RSP1068... it does not affect the picture...

                Rotel DVD Players
                by wernert
I have been browsing the forum and find it interesting that most of the Rotel systems (pictures posted) does not include a DVD player from Rotel. I see Denon, Pioneer, Sony, etc. The write-ups on the RDV1040 and RDV1060 available here in South Africa is excellent (rated at 5 stars). I am in the process...

                Folks,

I've decided to get hold of a new DVD player that can do DVD-Audio and Video well. I'm shooting for the RDV-1050. Has anybody got any opinions as to why I would go for the 1060 instead:- what is the principle difference between both as regards audio and video performance? I'm just...
