The DV-SP1000E DVD-SACD has its HDMI connector clustered on the back panel under "Video" connections. Since the DV-SP1000E DVD-SACD was introduced about a year before the NR5000E receiver, its HDMI implementation may not include sound. In fact, HDMI was advertised as a high performance "video" feature for this unit.

The IEEE 1394 (iLink, aka "firewire") connection may be your best bet for digital sound. Of course, an optical, or digital coax, connection would get you there, too.

You might find more specific guidance in the owner's manual, and given their intermittent track record with upgrades, if the more up-to-date audio-via-HDMI feature is not in the specs now, but the supporting software or hardware could be modified by them to allow it, Onkyo/Integra may offer an upgrade at some point. (But don't hold your breath waiting for them to notify you of it, even if you ask them about it directly.)

    Good luck,

    Burke

        Cool XR57 bi-amp feature?
        by Lindahl
I recently started the Zaph ZP5 thread, because I want a slim floorstander with good bass extension, but didn't want the tweeter he had chosen. Finding out how complicated it was to design a good crossover, I thanked everyone for the advice and began what I thought would be a long stint of reading....

        Pre-Amp Processor Suggestions
        by earwit
Well the way I see it, Amps and speakers only change a small degree over
time, Pre-amps in the digital domain are always changing.

I'm looking from a pre-amp that takes HDMI into account. If
you like it or not I beleive the future is HD-Dvd and Blue Ray.
        They will...

        Can I use a HDMI AV as a pre-amp to the 1098?
        by Poki
There is no HDMI to 7-channel analog audio "breakout" box.

I don't want to "junk" my 1098 but I need a HDMI Pre-Amp so will this configuration work?

        PS3 -> AV HDMI (say a Denon or Onkyo) In -> 7-channel Pre-out -> 1098 7-channel audio in (currently...

        B&W 705's or 703's as fronts ?
        by nmain
        Hi All,

I recently had the chance to demo some B&W 705's bi-wired and using the bi-amp feature on the arcam avr300, in a room about 4*5m's. I was happy with the two channel and surround sound, but thought that the 705's didn't quite have the volume I am after, at 80% of the arcam's...

A Q&A with Dave Nauber from Classe
        by sikoniko
UPDATE: Since we are doing a new Q&A, I thought I would bump this up in case anyone missed it the first time. A good way to see what has already been asked.

        Hello everyone,

As you know, Dave Nauber offered an intimate Q&A with the members of Club Classe....
