    Halo C1/C2 owners, need input

Im getting the C2 tomorrow and remembered I dont have a long enough composite or svideo to run from infocus projector to the C2 on the rack. I downloaded the manual and went thru it, but is it at all possible to do speaker settings, such as large/small and so on just by using the front display of the unit?

Ill have to run around tomorrow and hit radio shack or best buy to see what they have as far as lengths, I need a comfortable 20 ft so as I dont put tension on the projector.

How about the auto calibration? do I need the OSD to be operable during the test? Thanks for any input. I totally forgot about the osd connectivity, I'm a baaaaaad boy

    ALSO...

do I just need a regular serial cable to connect to my pc running xp?

Oh no way, you MUST have an s-video or composite to your tv. There's just no way on God's good earth you could run the calibration setup on C2's dinky little screen. Running it on the C1 would be bad enough!

And when you say a regular serial cable to connect to your PC, make sure you mean an RS232 cable, and not a USB or firewire cable. VERY IMPORTANT!

here are my findings after playign with the C2 abd 1072 for a few hours...

My cousin and I have been comparing the digital and analog for the past few hours.

I agree word for word with what Dr Boom had said. In the end I prefer the Stereo96... but I found something even better.....

I connected the 1072 to the 7.1 analogs left and right, which is true bypass for the C2, and this is by far the best sound....

so it seems that the 1072's DAC's, to my ears, is the more pleasing/accurate one. The vocals are in your face, with some material this can be annoying, but 80% of the time, it just sounds awesome. The soundstage is massive, no doubt about it. But like Boom said, its less accurate. So its all preference

I did the following connections, Ill list them as #1, sounding the best, and the last one not as good....

#1. 1072 analog outs to 7.1 Analog Ins, Best to my ears

#2. 1072 analog outs to Audio 2 unbalanced RCA's, in Stereo96 mode, very good overall.

#3. 1072, digital coax out AND the 1072 analog outs to audio 2 IN Stereo(not stereo96) sounded EXACTLY the same.

so there you have it. I am using Coballt cables for all tests. I will say this...

this C2 is a killer for movies. Sounds are so natural sounding, and the LFE out indeed gives out a lower, stronger signal.

One thing you find out very quickly Aaron with a pre/pro upgrade from a Rotel, the sounds are so much more dynamic. That doesn't mean the Rotel sound is bad, far from it. It is a great value and does a super nice job but the next level up, and subsequent levels up, reveal much more detail, clarity, cleanliness, and dynamics. It truly is incredible.

I notice right away a HUGE difference in bass dynamics (among many other things) between the RP-1098 and Bryston SP 1.7. It is deeper, cleaner, and more dynamic. I had to do some major adjusting of my subs (bass management) and the gains for my BP7000's. It is really dramatic. I am sure You'll find this new beaut of yours will push your amp to places your previous setup could not push your Rotel 1075 (again, a very nice amp in it's own right).

Gosh is this fun or what?!

Oh yes Indeedy bro! I love this thing! Ill never use 10% of it, but what the heck, Im in love!

2 channel music sounds awesome. Its not a 1.7 Im sure, but like you, Im trying to keep my gear as close as possible. The blue lights on the amp looked lonely, backup was needed :T

This thing is just sick for movies! I didnt know movies could sound like this :E

Over and over, review after review, folks rave about the SP 1.7's 2-channel performance. Don't get me wrong, it is awesome. But I'd like to see some major publications take the time to review it for movies too. Man I am telling you, it is flippin' incredible. I had "We Were Soldiers" on last weekend. I didn't have it turned up all that much (o.k., it was a tad loud --- but why not!). My daughter came home with a friend and they could hear it in the driveway as they were getting out of her friend's parent's car. They get in the house and her friend's jaw drops. They go upstairs and call a friend. The friend was asking my daughter what was going on in the house because she could hear all the sounds --- it was that clear.

              Enjoy my friend...

I have no doubt it rocks for movies, they use those in studios to do the final cuts for films so they had better be good for that. awesome story, its things like that make you sit back and enjoy what you have. When someone else has their jaw drop to the floor, you know its all good :T

I need to take a road trip to visit you my friend. I don't know anyone that owns the Parasound stuff you have. Gosh I like the look of it and I am sure it's sound is phenomenal too.

You know we keep talking about getting together and we're only, probably, 4 hours apart!

Sorry this is so long, but I want to paint an accurate picture.

A little over a month ago I purchased a RCD-1072 to add to my RSX-1055. Prior to the 1072, I had been using a roughly 15 year old Denon DCD-1520 which at the time was one of their top of the line CD players...this thing weighs...

Rotel Analog vs. Optical w/ Denon 1600
                      by aud19
I'm mostly looking for an answer from Andrew (or anyone else for that matter with Rotel gear and a Denon 1600 DVD player) but other opinions etc are welcome

The Denon 1600 only has an optical output (no coax ) for a digital connection. As such I'm wondering what people have preffered...

Very disappointed to find that my brain storm idea of adding a pair of subs to actively cancel a major room mode is limited to only my Digital sources. No where in the manual does it explain that this would be the case, but a call to Parasound has confirmed that my weekend of measuring and major restructuring...

I've recently been watching movies using the DD/DTS decoders in my Denon 3910 dvd player instead of the decoders in my preamp. The sound is different and I like it at first I didn't probably because the digital out is louder and seemed to sound better. I've been doing some critical listening. Movies...
