Parasound a21 and Magnepan mg 1.6 QR

    Parasound a21 amp
    P3 preamp
    Magnepan Mg 1.6 QR speakers.
    Audioquest king cobra interconnects.
Vincent audio cd-s6 Hybrid tube cd player.
15' speaker wire: Ultra cap by Liberty 12awg.

I am using this system for music and TV.
    4 sources:
    Cd Player,
cable box, (Tv and XM music)
    Tuner
    Sony Blu-Ray player.

    Everything has 200 hours.

Problem is speakers are way to bright.I have to turn the treble down to -10 on a lot of cd recordings.

I have moved the speakers in every possible way... No help. Wondering if a tube pre-amp might help? New speaker wires? What are your ideas?

    Dan in Los Angeles

Hey, Dan, welcome to the Guide and Club Parasound!

Honestly, I'm surprised that you find that system to be so bright. Have you done an actual calibration, or do you have the capability of doing a spectrum check so you can EQ?

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

      Chris,

I don't have calibration equipment and would not know how to use it.

When I turn the treble down to -10 it sounds much better but seems very flat.

      Any suggestions?

      Regards,
      Dan

        Dan,

Section 9 "Optional Tweeter Attenuation" in the manual explains how to deal with it: http://www.magnepan.com/man/MG16.pdf Section 8 also applies. A combination of adding resistors and room treatments will probably work best...

Thanks for the input Peter....I have been following your posts. I put the attenuator in the speakers that came with them.(-2b) did not make much of a difference at all. Considering I am turning the treble down to it's maximum position of -10 what number attenuator would you guess might be needed? Right now the speakers are 3' from the back wall and one is 3' from the side wall the other is 2' from the side wall. There are no curtains on the wall. Just hard surface. This set-up is in my bedroom. Speakers are 9'apart and I am 9' from them lying on the bed. I have tried moving them in and out but this seems to be the sweet spot. Putting them closer seems to blend all the insturments togeather. Do you think a tube preamp will help at all?

          Thanks for all your help.

added update: I just called Magnepan. They are sending me 2 and 4 db attenuators.

              Parasound vs Musical Fidelity
              by HDBLU
              Hi All
              One little Question

Would the Parasound be above Musical Fidelity in brand names, I had the Musical Fidelity A5-5 but had a lot of trouble with it so I changed it for a Rotel RB1080 it was a lot cheaper so that why I did it.

The A5-5 sound quit a bit better...

              Halo A21 with Magnepan MG3.6/R
              by HYM45
              Hi everyone,

Has anybody had an experience driving Maggie MG3.6/R with Parasound Halo A21? I'm planning to buy a new home theater system comprising Halo A21/Maggie MG3.6/R for front and Halo A51/Maggie CCR/MG1.6s for center and surround.

I'm more to the MUSIC than MOVIE....
