Hi all!
I'm a bit of a newbie in the Audiophile world so apologies for my crude description of my listening experience but here goes.
I have just purchased a Halo A23 to drive my dynaudio focus 220's. Out of the box my heart sank as I found the sound way too bright for my liking and the highs were almost painful. Knowing there's a 50hr or more break in period I shut myself up and saved the critique for later. I'm now nearing the 50hr mark and have just replaced the free cables that the speaker dealer gave me with some dynaudio ocos. These cables made a tremendous improvement on the sound, along with probably the fact that the amps almost done running in. The brightness mellowed out, the bass is a lot tighter and more defined and each part of the spectrum seems to be given its allocated space and presence.
Saying all that and getting to the point, I demo'd the speakers on a krell system (incl KAV3250) in the store and have to say that the sound was superb, with $12000 worth of equipment that’s not surprising. I plan to continue using the A23 for a couple of months but am considering upgrading to either a Halo A21 which I can get for $2500 or a Krell 3250 which I can get for $3700 (xdemo)in an attempt to approach the sound I had at the demo.
How does the A21 compare to the Krell 3250/2250 since I can get the A21 for significantly cheaper.
Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated "8)
