    Micro review of the D3

I can not write a real review of the D3, because my english is not good enough.
This is just a micro review.
Hope you understand what I am trying to say. Be gentle with me.

A few words about it`s performance.

As a cd player it`s great, it is way better than a Sony SCD xb940. I prefer the xlr to the rca output.

The bass is rock hard and goes very deep.
The midrange and tweeter is smooth and neutral.
The " sound picture " is very deep and wide, the instruments are well separated.

As a SACD player it is even better.

As a dvd player I have compared it to a Pioneer 696 and the Toshiba HD-DVD XA1. The display was a BenQ 8720 dlp projector and a HDMI connection.
    The screen was 77" widescreen.

The D3 performed way better than the Pioneer, but that was expected because of the big price diffrence.
Compared the tosh, it is very close in performance. Me and my friend could
not see any big diffrences in the picturequality. That was 1080i. Using 720p
the D3 is much better than the Tosh XA1.

Remember I am not a pro, so this is just my experience with the Halo D3.

My sound system is all Parasound Halo:

    D3, C2, A51.

    Speakers, all Bowers and Wilkins:
    front: cdm9
    center: cdmc
    rear: cdm7
    back: cdm7
    sub: asw 4000

Cables: between D3 and C2: Kimber Hero XLR and Ethereal coax digital.
between C2 and A51: Ethereal XLR
between A51 and B&W cdm9: PSaudio extream statement.
The rest is Supra classic 6
power cables are all PS audio extream prelude.

Hey Hamtor, if you want to write a detailed review in Norwegian, you can send it to me and I'll post it here! I can translate it. No problem, as I have roots in Norway...

Thanks, but no thanks. I throw the ball over to other D3 owners. I hope that
they will post their experiences here too.

I forgot to write that my back speakers are powerd by a Nad 208. Probably because I am upgrading the amp for my main speakers. I have purchased a JC1, the second one will be bought later.

Definitely the blue eyes... Once I used to be blonde, and my 2 year old son shows the same traits. Unfortunately, the blonde seems to fade away with the years

So how long do you guys think it will be before any of the smaller independent players will have a BR or HD-DVD player (or combo)? I would suspect maybe Arcam, Rotel or Cary Audio would be 1st...and likely not Parasound and we know that's not a surprise. I think it's going to take companies like Denon/Marantz, Onkyo/Integra, Yamaha & HK some time as well. Only the charter members have units out at this point and not too many announcements. This is going to take a couple years for the industry to fully switch gears. I suspect 2009 will really be the big year. It definitely isn't going to be this year and next year is very iffy. Thoughts?

Agreed that Parasound not first. I'm going to guess 3Q-ish 2008 for a smaller company with the HD player.

It's hard to say. If HD media sales don't pick up significantly over the next year or so I could see both formats fading into oblivion while some other technology emerges to replace it. Holographic disks are already on the horizon and I personally think the consumer has had it with format wars. Most seem to be perfectly content with their SD DVDs.

                    Time will tell....

The movies we used were: "Miami Vice", "MI3", "We Were Soldiers", "Batman Begins", all of them in both dvd and HD-dvd. "Cars" was the only dvd without HD.
