    xlr setup question

hi there, I'm trying to eliminate hiss from my setup. Does anyone know whether it is possible to do the following.

(Source XLR Out) > XLR cable > (C2 XLR In)

(C2 RCA Out) > RCA cable > (A52 RCA In)

    thanks for your time.

Hmmm, hiss. not sure hiss can be attributed to cable noise to begin with.

Half your connections above work, the XLR source out to XLR pre-in will work great.

The second connection, will receive no benefit from XLR, because transferring to RCA makes it an unbalanced connection, and as if there are truly no XLR connections at all involved.

On the outside, it could be that something from the above makes a difference in your system, but not REAL likely.

As far as Halo specific parameters, yes, channels which are INPUT via the balanced ports CAN be output via RCA's, if your amps or whatever do not have balanced connectors.

          not to high jack.....

Is there an adapter that allows XLR to plug in to an RCA. Like XLR on one end and a male rca on the other?

Drew, there is such an adapter. I'm not sure if the Shack sells one or not, but there is one in existence.

Balanced XLR vs RCA's - what's the deal?
                    by alpina
                    hi guys,

finally geting around to the wiring end and am wondering what the deal is between balanced XLR vs RCA? What makes one better than the other and what are the real world sonic differences between the two?

                    cheers,

I have B&W 804's. Any one have an opinion on XLR versus RCA cables?
I know it has something to do with balanaced versus unbalanced.
                    thanks.

                    Hi guys,
Sorry to keep bothering u guys with my querries. My set up is a Cyrus CD 8X, Bryston BP 6/ 3 BSST pre/power and B&W 805s.
The preamp only has RCA outputs though the power amp accepts both RCA and male XLR s.

                    Hi all

i have seen that this subject has been talked about before
but i have some other questions..
If you use a balanced cable from your preamp and have the adapter
on your xlr-cable or is it better to have the adapter on your preamp
                    and use a rca cable...
