    choice between Neo6 and DPLII

When I put in a 2.0 surround DVD my C1 automatically selects Neo6. Now I'm not sure why or in the setup it may have forced me to have back speakers somewhere but not in speaker selection, but I need to go back and see.

Anyhow, 2.0 surround would be better in which format in a 5.1 system

Anyone have an idea or why it would automatically select neo6 ?

thanks for any help on this

I prefer DPLII to Neo6 for two channel music. I think it's a personal preference.

Because that's what you last selected. If you pick another mode as the default it will stay on that...whether it's 2 channel stereo, DPLII or Neo6

I am not familiar with the word "oxymoron" and would hope that as a sponsor you are not insulting me. ?

On the back of the DVD I have it says "2.0 surround". If you are not familiar with it, maybe you are the "oxymoron".

And NEO6 was not the last selection I picked either. I NEVER use Neo6. I was playing a dvd in 5.1 ?? If the DVD doesn't offer 5.1 like the "last" selection then this occured. That's why I asked !! The processor made the decision independently.

        How about an apology maybe.

The oxymorons it that 2.0 (stereo) can not be surround because it does not use any of the surround speakers.

Actually there seems to be a software glitch that randomly causes the C2 (v6.80) to select Neo6 or DPLII even though Stereo was used previously.

Sometimes (not always), my C2 switches into DPLII or Neo6 mode after I power it up and start playing a CD even though I'm 100.00% sure STEREO was used the last time.

This might be an incompatibility between my Sony DVD and C2 that triggers the glitch/bug in the C2 software, since my C2 always says "Error" at first, for a second, when I start playing a CD and it detects the digital signal... Nevertheless, there is a bug in there. I wonder if it would be worth trying v6.86 to see if it fixes anything in this area...

Well I guess I am a Moron for not knowing what an "Oxymoron" is then.

My apologies. I've lived in Europe for 21 years and I have never heard the word before, when I lived in the states.

I agree totally. 2.0 surround is an Oxymoron !!!

But trust me, I thought of a bunch of comebacks that probably would have got me in trouble being that I'm a sponsor :B :B :B

Just imagine what a Texan could say about their friend over in France :B :B :B

I try to keep it light.

I'll see if I can get that to happen as well.

Does it happen with 6.86 or do you still have 6.8?

Overall I have been happy with the sound of the Parasound, but if I could have had the Rotel software in the Parasound I would be happier.

There are things that bother me about the Parasound and I will keep my eyes open for a change.

I don't like the fact that its unreliable in "mode" selection and I always am checking to see what mode I am in. (don't you)

and then while I am checking

The c1 screen is unreadable except from very close directly in front

Another unreliablitiy is the levels. I set them to 75db then go back and check them a few days later and there can be a difference. Perhaps this is due to other factors, but I am using a spl meter.

You want to count on "precision" and although I felt Parasound was a step up from Rotel 1098, the software is definitely not. I am going to check in to some other brands ie Lexicon, Krell, Meridian and see what they have to offer.

I haven't had a problem with my "levels" changing at all, myself.

As far as modes go, I haven't had any problems there, either, but I always keep my C1 in DPLIIx for all inputs.

I had to laugh at the "oxymoron" thing. Just a classic example of language barriers between friends from different cultures and different languages. We have to laugh at ourselves as humans sometimes, and the comical situations we get into.

This is such a noobie question I am almost embarassed to ask it. But I was watching tv last night in DPLII and I just had to wonder why the sides and center backs are so rarely heard. Sure, they make noise, but a lot of the time to make sure they are even on, I have to stick my ear up to them.

Is this normal. I have a 1055 and did my calibration with the built in test signal, and when I play a DVD all the levels are fine, but when I play a vhs tape using DPLII I have to manually boost the surround and CB speakers.
