Halo Deal (need advice)

As many of you no, Good Guys will no longer be carrying any Parasound Halo equipment. So, the stores are selling their demo gear for really great prices.

A51 $1600
A52 $ 800
C1 $3000
C2 ?

Should I go ahead and buy? I'd like to get a C2 and either the A52 or A51. Thoughts?

Wow, not much in the response category here. I know the prices are extremely low, my main questions are 1) would any of you have reservations in buying the "demo" equipment? and 2) would you recommend the A51 or A52 and why? (note: I live in an apt. in SF so I really can't crank it).

I'd suggest the the C2 and A52, they have plenty of power. Plus, you live in an apt.

Not attractive? Are you confusing this with A21/A23?

I agree the C1 price is not that great. However, $1600 for an A51 with an MSRP of $4000 is REALLY exceptionally low IMHO...

Thanks for all of your input. I called the Good Guys today to confirm the prices and they were backtracking saying that the items were mismarked. I was a little leery of buying "demo" gear myself.

I think I will just wait and contact Brent when I am ready to pull the trigger. Again, thanks for all of your input.

Just reading this for the first time myself, and all I have to say has already been batted around by the other guys. I wouldn't buy high-end equipment like Halo that has been demo gear. Lower quality items, maybe, but not Halo.

Now, in the case of that A51, if you can get Good Guys to stick with that price, do it! Regardless of how it's been used, you'll come out ahead. Don't inquire, don't ask permission. Just tell the salesman you want to buy the unit for the price that was stated.

I would say 800 $ for this amp is fantastic, I'd buy it immediately if I was in need of another amp! If something were to fail with it, you can repair a lot for the price difference to a new one!

Don't sweat it. As Longhorn John already mentioned, the units accidentally got the wrong price tags. They obviously put the A23 price on the A21 and the A52 price on the A51...

On a related note, I drove by my neighborhood Good Guys today. It's now a Comp USA. I thought they were partnering with Comp USA, not being taken over.

CompUSA bought Good Guys from my understanding.

Well, low and behold I ended up buying a Pioneer Elite PRO 112O plasma. Still looking at the Halo gear though.

I would shy away from demo gear that was within reach of the public. Now, my demo gear on the other hand is primo. The problem I have is that I never want to let it go. With all of the gear I try out on a regular basis it becomes quite the task just to keep up with all the extra stuff I have waiting to be bought by people looking for a good deal. The list is endless.

Anyway, a great deal on Halo could be worth it with the warranty and all, but the few hundred bucks in savings may not be worth it if you end up getting a lemon. With the demo gear I have, I personally know the history and can feel comfortable selling it or if it's B stock I know I have the manufacturer behind it, etc. With the big box guys, it's very sketchy.
