    B&W P7 headphones

    B&Ws flagship P7 headphone

I picked up a pair today. Lovely pair of headphones

lovely smell of leather opening up the box, beautifully packaged and class item in fit finish and quality. lovely black leather case they come with too, to pack them away in.

compared with the sennheisser hd650 just out of curiosity. Quite different headphones. The P7s are a lot louder for the same input, adjusting back level to match the 650s and the p7s I felt were punchier, good detail and definitely tighter sounding. I like being a closed back design they block out ambient noise too. Very pleased

Very nice. Lovely design and quality. I bought the P5's a while back and am very happy with them.

though been a bit time poor have been listening to the p7s over the last week. did some comparisons back to the sennheiser HD580s I have and the p5s.

given the p7s a shot via the only headphone amp have these days, an old audio alchemy (pure class A thing that runs hot ! has some serious kick and doesn't hold any prisoners hehe). the P7s have some marvellous detail comparing back to the p5s they're in every way a step above, bass, top end, detail the lot.

in comparison the HD580s sound a lot more laid back. the p7s has them for detail, top end and drive. the 580s while don't have the same mid bass drive they have more depth in bass and a more delicate sound to them overall. the B&Ws a comfortable fit overall too and they enclose the ears completely as well so block out the ambient noise even more compared to the open design of the sennheisers.

also tried plugging into my iPhone to see how these go, and the p7s like the p5 work very well with iPhone, they don't take as big a hit to the sound as the senns do when not powering off a headphone amp.

overall am impressed with the p7s

Don't remember the model of B&W headphones I listened to at a Magnolia Best Buy when I bought mine but I went with the Sennheiser HD558's as I thought the B&W's didn't sound unlike a pair of ipod ear buds (muffled, no treble, non-existent bass). The HD558 gave me the closest sound I was looking for without EQ and I tested headphones twice the price. The HD558 from I can remember where either one of the most comfortable headphones or the most comfortable of the bunch. I love B&W loudspeakers, but the headphones I listened to left a lot to be desired and they didn't feel that comfortable (compared to the HD558 ).

well B&W do make in ear phones, if thats what your talking about. but if in any way inferring the p7s sound like some some "ipod ear buds (muffled, no treble, non-existent bass)" that couldn't be further from how the p7s sound. and am speaking here from experience of hearing and owning some top reference headphones including the senheisser HD580/600/650/700 & the flagship hd800.

can read about my comparisons here even more recently,

and there are some good reviews on the net too on the p7s for any one looking,

The Bowers & Wilkins P7 make the best case yet for a $400 designer headphone. Vivid detail, warm, powerful bass and superb dynamics are the hallmarks of this fine over-ear headphone.

The Bowers & Wilkins P7 headphones are the brand's first over-ear cans

Best portable on-ears £300+, Awards 2013. Great headphones – the P7s still set the standard at this price

and sure headphones can be a personal choice and sounds like you have found yours. things like sound character and fit/comfort looking for are a personal thing

It definitely wasn't in-ear buds as I wouldn't waste money on any brand of them. Could of been the P5, but I think I remember two colors, one pair white, and the other pair black. All headphones where connected to the same equipment. Most of them sounded very similar, some where duds (yikes! don't kill me too bad, I thought the B&W headphones where duds in both sound quality and comfort!) and some of the more expensive ones didn't sound that good for the price either. But one of the cheapest of the bunch, HD558 definitely stood out from the crowd! Disregarding price, I thought they where the best sounding along with being the most comfortable! I love them! Sad they only had this one model of Sennheiser in the store. Wonder why Sennheiser doesn't get into the loudspeaker market? They seem to know a lot about good sound and their headphone brand name seem to be the standard everyone likes to compare others to. I'd still be hard pressed to ever give up my B&W's though as I don't think you're going to easily beat the openness of the FST midrange anytime soon!

Given the crowd at Best Buy, it wouldn't completely surprise me to find that the 'phones were blown.

Not that this would explain the lack of comfort.

maybe they were blown, not even the same model (definitely not P7s if black / white) or whatever as suggested, but sorry my experience doesn't match yours with the B&W headphone in p5 and p7 own myself. your entitled to your opinion of course and I respect that and glad you found what suits

re sennheisers am a big fan myself ... have owned from hd25s base model to the very flagship model of theirs. but you'll find disparate opinion on them, its a love em or hate em experience. you'll find models like the very popular hd650 that people love for their punchy bass and easy going top end, others will call them overblown in bass and veiled and their headlamp not something everyone will tolerate (I couldn't). their flagship in the hd800s on other hand some love their neutrality on other hand others will say they are thin sounding, lack bass and too analytical in the detail. and while am quite impressed by their new hd700 and older hd580, you'll find plenty quite critical of them for some reason or the other !

like speakers, headphones are very similar as their sound character is very much a personal pref thing. as to fit & comfort we all have different heads, but luckily plenty out there to choose from

hehe main reason would never buy something like this from a box mover. we're lucky where we are I guess to have specialist retailers with this kind of thing. but not an option for everyone I guess !
