    Volume

Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows why volume nobs/increments on av receivers are in -dB? (ex. -35dB)

I've heard that 0 is some sort of reference level.

    Thank you

When the volume control reads 0dB it's supposed to be unity gain, meaning there's no difference in level between the signal coming into the preamp stage and what is being output to the amplifiers. It's like going straight from the source into the amp with nothing in between.

Most of a preamp's life is spent attenuating the incoming signals and that is why they are shown in negative numbers and count up to 0dB. Once you get in the positive number range the preamp is applying gain (slightly amplifying it) before it enters the amps.

    I hope that makes sense.

Setting volume levels on RSP-1098 - rears seem soft?
      by jlee
Hello. I just got my RSP-1098. Firmware is version 3.1 (I guess the 2 week wait was worth it... seems as if I ended up with the most recent version). I just got my Classe CAM-200 for the center channel yesterday.

      Setup:
      Left, Center, Right - CAM-200
      Rear - RB-1080

Interesting thing about the volume control on the Halo C2
      by Kingdaddy
I noticed that the more you boost any one speaker setting (Center, Rear, Sub ect.) the less total gain you have available at the master volume. If I boost the Center +2db’s then it will take 2db’s away from the total volume. At 0 level on all speakers I can run the volume up to +4db’s on a DTS...

RC-1550: left channel has a lower gain than right at low volume.
      by dxL
I sent this message recently to Rotel Support Europe (no answer yet), but it seems interesting to me to post it on this forum too:

Two weeks ago I bought a new Rotel combination consisting the RC-1550 and the RB-1552. I'm very pleased with the overall sound quality, but today I noticed...

      A21 Gain controls
      by LAMark
I am a longtime lurker on this forum but now I have a couple of questions. I am the happy owner of a C1, A51, and A21. Originally I had them set up for a 7.1 system, but recently I have experimented with keeping the C1/A51 in a 5.1 system (partly for the negative WAF of the two "extra" speakers...

      P3/A23 Volume problem - HELP!
      by thunderstorm77
I have the P3/A23 combo hooked up through balanced cables. The source is a computer with balanced output (EMU 1212M). The problem is that one speaker plays significantly higher than the other. I have worked on this for about 2 months, and it's driving me crazy.

      When messing around with...
