    Receiver advice

My Denon 2707 just died. I am thinking of going to separates. I have BW 683 speakers and use system for movies and music equally.

Modest budget, maybe $1000 or so for replacing the Denon.

    Appreciate your advice.

I used a Rotel RSX-1058 before going with separates. You can probably get a used one close to your budget.

Moving up to Rotel would be a real ear opener for you. If you can find and afford, I would go Rotel.

        Agree.

My previous RSX-1057 has treated me very well.

Yeah, there is absolutely NO comparison. I LOVE my Rotel 1560.

Quick story: Several years ago, i purchased a set of B&W 803's from a dealer who told me that they would sound just fine on my Yamaha receiver. When I got them home, they sounded WORSE than my Boston Acoustic speakers. Yep, true story. Not knowing better, I took the 803's back. I tried this all over again a few years later with a different dealer who sold me some 703's and a Rotel receiver & amp. WOAH! Night & day difference. Blew my trusty Boston's outta the water!. The difference? Rotel's amp, followed by their receiver.

Good rule of thumb - electronics (pre-amp or receiver + amp + cables) should cost about what the front 2 speakers cost. Its JUST a general guideline, so don't get too wrapped up in it. I used to think the electronics couldn't make a big difference. HA! They are literally 1/2 of the system, so do not underestimate what they contribute.

            Thanks

I got a line on a used 1058 for about $800. Denon has a great reputation for sound quality, but most people here seem to prefer Rotel. Must be the way to go
