New 800D speakers at Abbey Road

A very short story from auodiophilia with a nice picture of the studio with 3 800DI speakers in front of the mixing panel...

"state of the art analogue console"

Thats very interesting at a time when folks say there are now so few analogue studios out there. It makes perfect sense. Any ordinary Joe can buy an inexpensive DA / AD converter and record with a Mac in his toilet or in his back paddock (ie pretty much anywhere). How is a studio going to keep the punters coming back for more if they don't offer a sufficiently different service. Solution = analogue.

I went to have a squiz at Abbey Rd while I was in London last year, but of course they don't let you inside unless you are a paying customer with a record to cut.

I loved watching a local tradie goin' off at a group of young tourists standing at The Crossing He was legally obliged to stop but they refused to cross until it was clear of traffic so they could take their Beatles photo. (I took great pleasure in J walking just to be different)

Interesting picture, the 3 speakers seem to be placed so close to the walls as to be almost touching them. I thought the rule of thumb to getting the most of the speakers was to position them away from any walls, i.e back and side??

Guess that depends on the material on the walls. That appears to be the dead end of the room with absorbing materials and large bass traps in the corners, although there is a door there also.

Why the biamping at Abbey Roads?
          by Jesse111
Curious. Why does Abbey Roads passive biamp their 800D's if there is little to know benefit?

The vast majority of experienced folks as well as the data seems to support little to know benefit. Does Abbey just like to promote the B&W network of gear or is the 800D ohm'd out and designed...

          Abbey Road Studios
          by misterdoggy

I thought those of you who know that Abbey Road Studios which have B&W 800D's and 801D's and 802D's driven biamped by Classe Amps would be interested to know a little history about the Studios.

I had not realised that it had such a rich history. I thought it was something...

          Can't record via analogue.
          by Brent
I have owned my silver 1066 firmware 1.37 since the end of July and am very happy with it's performance, but just recently discovered that it won't record thru the analogue section. I can record to my Mini Disc via the optical. But I want to convert my Lp's to MD and no go. I have the Turntable's phono...

Abbey Road studio, users of B&W, for sale!
          by boarder1995
Ok, this is a stretch, but thought those other B&W fans here might be interested in the news that Abbey Road is now up for sale. This is the studio featured by B&W in their promotional DVD quite often. They also use B&W speakers almost exclusively - mostly the 801/800D models. The studio...
