How should I calibrate my setup?

    Hi,

I have 805 diamonds in front which are 88db sensitivity and XT4's in back which are 86db sensitivity. Should I try to add some dB's to back since the 805's are more sensitive?

I tried XT4's in front and noticed that I had to put much more volume to get the same result than with 805's. Setup is Rotel RSP-1570 & RMB-1075 amplifier.

    Thanks for answers,

    Mika.

Ps. I use 2 channel with music. XT4's come to life with movies.

    Mika,

A fairly simple and relatively inexpensive thing to do is get a sound meter. I prefer an analog meter.

You would then need some test tones to measure each spekaer output at the listenening position. This process will tell you whether to add or take away Db's for each speaker.

Many processors come with their own test tones. However, my experience is that good calibration disks have better test tones. And calibration disks also have video adjustments in them. So you could do a whole system.

Here are some links for products to consider. Hopefully you can find something comparable in Finland.

These assume you have Blu Ray:

    Hope this helps.

      Moi Mika,

Marek Sound in Helsinki sells radioshack meters http://www.mareks.fi/tuotteet/radios...naloginen.html

You can also find spl meter apps for smart phones however these are not as accurate as the real thing, but doesn't hurt to try them out, right?

      Hope this helps!

I am not sure where to post about this, but will start here. You guys seem to be quite knowledgeable in speaker related things.

        The story goes like this:

I have completed a DIY sub and am working to get crossovers set between the sub and the mains. Trying to set by ear...

I currently have a full FPM set up with B&W PV1 sub powered by a rotel rsx 1067. I have to admit its a sweet sound system. As many of you know regardless of how good your system sounds, and with out even hearing something better you always think of ways to improve.

Sound level meter: digital or analog?
        by hired goon
        G'day,

I want to measure the bass output of my speakers in my room. I've got a Stereophile test CD with 1/3 octave warble tones (down to 20 Hz), and a Radioshack digital sound level meter.

But I seem to recall problems with the digital sound level meter (something to do...

HOW TO SET UP A SUB (dbs hrz dial)

Ok the system is nearing perfection.

The question is when setting up levels, calibration where do we put the volume knob at on the Sub.

You can set the decibels output with a dpl meter but where do you start from. You don't want to end up "boomy" but different...

Well I guess I finally can call myself an official member here. I unpacked my new XT4s this afternoon. I purchased them for my study library. All the new built in furniture made it impossible to fit my beloved Klipsch Chorus II in the room so it was time for something that could make a substantial...
