    4 or 8 ohms with the HTM2d

I know a number of folks, myself included, who enjoy the sound of the 802Ds running at 4 ohms (McIntosh MC501 amps).

I'd like to know what you are running your HTM2d's at (4 or 8 ohms).

I'm stock right now at 8 and it sounds good. Just curious if I should move the HTM2D down to 4 as well?

    Your thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks.

I run mine at 8 ohms. I tried 4 ohms, and didn't really notice much of a difference.

One note - the one at 8 Ohm will always sound louder due to higher GAIN (compaired to 4 Ohms)- so to avoid the mismatch between the 3 front speakers you should use the same taps be it 4 or 8 Ohm. MHO

I run my 800n's on 4ohms from the Macs. They sound fine to me.

Why not biwiring highs to 8 ohms, and lows to 4 ohms?

specialized, hmmm, have not tried that. I did some research prior to hooking up the Mac's and the 800n's and the conclusion was to run them at 4ohms. I tried it and it sounds great to me. Would I gain or lose anything on your configuration ???

                      Hi,

I was asked the following by EAmin in a PM and thought my answer worth sharing so that others could contribute their opinions...

                      802d/MC501 and HTM2d/Rotel 1080..will this be a sound mismatch
                      by JoeBob
Can anyone tell me if I would have a sound mismatch with amping the 802d's with Mcintosh MC501 amps and biamping the HTM2d center with a 1080? I am using a MX120 processor.

                      Thank you

                      HTM1D vs HTM2D experience / perspective
                      by joe_s
I believe I've settled on B&W 802D's for stereo / front left and right in a combined music / home theater configuration. The HTM2D would seem to be a upgrade from the HTM1 center in the last series (I've heard the HTM1 and was impressed; I have not yet heard the HTM2D). That said, I'm fairly...

bi-amp HTM2D or just use one channel 300wpc
                      by Relentless
I am running my 802D mains with a Bryston 4BSST and I am going to run them with a pair of MC501's. Until I can get another MC501 I want to use the 4BSST for the center channel. My pre/pro does not have bi-amping outputs but I can get a balanced Y cable made or a Y splitter.

                      Would I be...

I am wondering about connecting to the 4 ohm taps on the MC501 to my 802Di's. Since the 802Di is rated for 8 ohm can someone tell me what happens when connecting to the 4 ohm taps both from a sound standpoint as well as an electrical standpoint vs the 8 ohm taps? Does more power get send down the...
