    New B&W 685/686

I went to my local dealer today to buy B&W 685s and 686s but was told they were not supplied anymore. Apparently, an upgrade is coming out in the first week of September. Can anybody verify this information?

No information, but they are not old series. I do not think there will be an update.

I have not heard this at all! This would seem very odd for B&W to discontinue a product so early. Especially since the 685 is such an awesome speaker!

That doesn't make any sense to me. As far as I know, the new 600 series is selling well - you could contact B&W directly to find out, but I suspect your dealer is giving you a line here (though I couldn't begin to guess why).

its pretty sad when a person can't even trust their local BW dealer for reputable information anymore.

I have to call BS on this one too.. Just the fact that the 685 is winning almost every test in its pricerange should ensure its survival for at least a couple more years... But then again, why would he lie to a potential buyer??
            Regards,
            Steffen

                2½-way speaker.

Is it just me who is missing a 2½-way speaker a step up from the 600 series. I have come to this conclusion after hearing 804s,CM9 and 683 that I don't like the way the FST midrange sounds, i like the Mid/bass driver better,I just seen that they have added a 12" sub to the CM line, so maybe we will se a 2½-way speaker in the CM line at CEDIA,well that's just my wish anyway.

is there any differen between 4 ohms and 8 ohms amps?

                  hello

                  i do have a question:
is there any different between 4 and 8 ohms amps?
I own b&w 685 speakers and yamaha rxv 365 which has 4 ohms.
when i was in a shop in a show room they have had b&w 685 connected do the MARANTZ PM6003 AMPLIFIER which has got i believe 8 ohms. in the show room i was really impressed about quality and power from such small speakers.
i cannot get it form my yamaha rxv 365 which has got about 105 watt per channel.
so... does it matter if there is 4 or 8 ohms?

                  and last question:
i did buy harman kardon avr 355 and i wonder if its going to be good enough for my speakers for now? is it any good choice?
in the future gonna change it for rotel and cm7 or 9... but its just a plan.

                  many thanks for your advise
                  chris

                    HTM61 & 683 vs. HTM62 and 685/686
                    by nirvana_1911
Just done some critical listening, auditioned B&W and A/B comparisons at the local hifi/HT store.

Is it just me or does the HTM61 sound much, much better than the HTM62?

Also, the 683 sounds so much better than the 685/686 for stereo listening?

                    I was...

SPEAKER STANDS for 685 and the 686
                    by e.mann30
I just recently purchased the 685 as my main speakers , and the 686 for the rear surround speakers. I don't want to buy the FS-700 CM because of the price. What speaker stands do ya'll recommend for each pair (685) (686) ?

                    Hi all!!!
This is my first post and the main reason (the only one) is because there is a B&W Fan club!

I am a great fan of B&Ws too (my first one was a pair of 602 S2).

Well, i am about to set up my new system in the new (smaller) house.

Which goes with 685's better, 608 or 610 sub?
                    by PM5K
My room is pretty small, 12x15x8. I like that the 608 is smaller physically, and I'm sure power wise it's probably okay for the room size, but in terms of the quality and level of 685's, is the 608 still good or would it go more with 686's?

The biggest spec that stood out to me is that...
