    B&W 803S 4ohm vs. 8ohm

This has been discussed many times, but I'm interested in what people are getting out of running B&W speakers on 4 ohm taps? I own a Mac 352 and a Mac C41

I've had my 803S for a bout 1.5 years and have spent equal time listening both ways. I have found good and bad both ways.

On the 8 ohm taps, there seems to be better soundstage in highs and mids, but a bit too much bass.

On the 4 ohm taps, a bit more analytical in highs and mid, but the bass is about right.

Any epiphanies out there on B&W speaker impedance?

I run the 802Ds on an MC303 at 4ohms. Seems only proper in view of the impedance curve. Sounds good, too.

      B&W 803S 4 vs. 8 Ohm

I appreciate your response, but how is the 4 Ohm taps better? What are you hearing that convinces you of that?

A lower impedance load means more current (double going form 8 to 4 ohms). More current means a greater dynamic range (with regards speakers). BUT, some amps might have a problem supplying this extra current.

I run my 803S and MC205 on the 4Ohm taps. After many months of testing I have come to the conclusion that the 4ohm taps sound more dynamic and detailed with the highs. I haven't noticed as much with the midrange. The bass on the 8ohm was slightly more pronounced.

            Hi Everyone,

This is a stupid? Just wondering how you are reducing the ohm's for the speakers.

            Thanks Terry

The Mcintosh amps have three sets of connectors, one at 2ohm, one at 4, and one at 8.

                by Highroller
I am wondering about connecting to the 4 ohm taps on the MC501 to my 802Di's. Since the 802Di is rated for 8 ohm can someone tell me what happens when connecting to the 4 ohm taps both from a sound standpoint as well as an electrical standpoint vs the 8 ohm taps? Does more power get send down the...

                803S with MC 352- 4 Ohm Taps?
                by Dmm53
I have a pair of 803S biwired to a MAC 352. I am using a pair of Catcables. I've read some posts on other forums about B&W speakers sounding "Better" in the 4 ohm taps than the 8 ohm taps on the Mac.

Is there a sonic benefit and is it safe to try?

can my amp drive 4 ohm speakers?
                by tannista
Definately a noob question here, but I am trying to determine if my Nak AV8 can handle speakers rated at 4ohms, and if so how many can it handle.

Right now I have 2 8ohm speakers attached to it, but I am considering a DIY HT project to build a new set of 4ohm main speakers (a subwoofer...

Value of an amp doubling wpc 8ohm vs 4ohm
                by Gump
I know this has been discussed before but I did a search and it's a hard subject to explain to a computer because I couldn't find anything.

How important is it for an amp's wpc to double from 8ohm's to 4 ohm's? Is it really that big of a deal? And I'm talking pure SQ here.
