Sunshine come to my room in the evening and my lovely 805s are in the room. I know that they made from solid wood but are they ok to get direct hit from the sun for couple hours in the evening. Now my room feel like the oven because i don't want to open the blind to protect my speakers. 8)

No. If you're going to have them in a place that is going to expose them to lots of time in the sun, I would recommend leaving the grills off.
My HTM2's grill has a stencil design, and they were expose too long in the sun with the grill on. Now when I take off the grill, you can see a slight color difference. Yes, over time it will change with the sunlight, but nothing bad. I would just recommend to leave the grills off so if there is a slight change in color, it will be even.B&W 804S/Velodyne SPL-1000R/Anthem MRX720- Bottom

It's not sold wood but a thin wood veneer. Solid wood has terrible resonating sound properties that makes it unsuitable for speakers cabinets. Also UV is bad for just about any tying over time. If hitting the drivers directly it can cause the foam edges of the woofers to dry rot more quickly and damage what ever coatings they may have. I would try and avoid direct sunlight if at all possible.Originally posted by kobestonecoldSunshine come to my room in the evening and my lovely 805s are in the room. True for the most part, but not necessarily the baffle. My Natalie Portman’s use 3/4” Baltic birch ply for all but the 1-1/2” thick front baffle, which is made from two well braced laminated pieces of solid poplar.Originally posted by WilliamSolid wood has terrible resonating sound properties that makes it unsuitable for speakers cabinets.- Bottom

around 2 hours or so. still hot man... :EOriginally posted by RobPwhen you say evening sun, how long is the exposure? An hour or so of a setting sun does not have the same strength as it does earlier in the day, so you may be just fine.
i may need to get a towel to cover them- Bottom

I covered my HTM7 when it was in a room with direct sunlight (when not in use of course). My 703s have a slight discoloration from where the grills are, and they were never really exposed to direct sunlight. A discoloration is inevitable if you keep the grills on like I do.
I recommend covering them with a towel when not in use. It will keep the dust away too!

I always keep a linen towel over my turn table, but not necessarily to keep the dust off. I figure if my wife can't see it, she won't be asking how much I paid for it.- Bottom

Hello,
I cannot clearly imagine a room situation where the drivers are faced to the light so much. (than they would make their their their sound to the outside window??)
Normally the back or a side should receive the sunlight.
My 802d,s are standing with their back in a very light position. (south windows from floor to ceiling). Tell you : no problem at all. Dont worry.
I play without gril. So in my situation the front gets no direct light. The kevlar gets more dark yellow because of normal aging.
There is no need to protect the wood. Believe it.
I would remove the gril. Because the normal aging is nice uniform and not like my body where i have a distinct transistion where I wear my swimming pants.!- Bottom

by CADman_ksFirst of all, let me say that I think that I hate this hobby!, or whatever is. :P It's more like an addiction! After getting my Stentorians done, I had to build something else, and now the hunt is on.
And, more importantly, I HAVE to have a reason to go out there and just listen to them. 8)

by misterdoggyEveryone showed their setups with 90% showing them with the Grills off. The sun in my living room will have an eventual effect of the part of the wood thats hidden behind the grill (fading maybe). Do you have yours off or on and why ?

by Jesse111I did some extensive A/B stuff the other day. Grills on Grills off. Well, I'm not sure if I could truly tell a difference. But, a few times I "thought" I did. So, what does that mean? Well, it means that since I think I might be able to tell the difference, I don't think I can leave the grills...On47.62%20Off52.38%22-
