Has anyone ever Painted a Speaker?

has anyone ever brought a speaker to an automotive grade painting place. I was running the idea of painting my 803's Gloss Black.

I would be scared to death about overspray or damage to the drivers since speakers are not their specialty. Also can they paint on the wood grained veneer and get a smooth finish?

That sounds like a great idea, let us know if you do it and if it works?

I would love to do that I would have them painted Red Ferrari Gloss

If you decide to sell them for something better down the road, you will have a difficult time getting much for those painted speakers.

I would contact an auto paint shop an see if they would do it for you. A custom cabinet maker may also do it. The place I bought my kitchen from does customer car paint from Porsche on their cabinets.I got mine done in Lapis Blue Metalic

I wax my kitchen every year...

Take it to a cabinet shop that specializes in fine furniture finishing, an automotive shop really isn't set up to do such a thing.

Are you on about painting the box unti or the actual drivers?
i would have thought that spraying the drivers would ruin the sound as the need to expand ..dont they?

                  Just the cabinets.

Maybe even if a pair of damaged speakers could be sourced, the cabinets could be bondo'ed.

I painted my old M&K sub gloss black 10 years ago to match my Piano finish Mirage M-1's. I only painted the cabinet which had a standard oak finish. I sanded it down to the wood, painted it gloss black and sealed it. It had a nice shine, not quite as glossy as my mirage but looked great. I'm no pro but it can be done. My sister bought my speakers and sub. The sub still has it's finish and looks great. If you have a pro do the finish i'm certain you'll be happy. If you get a chance post some before and after pics.

                        What finish are they?
If I remember correctly, the black ash models had an open grain while the rosenut and cherry finished had a "sealed" grain.
If this is in fact the case the black version would be much harder to refinish.
Also be advised that the key to a long life high gloss finish is stability of the substrate. Since your speakers are veneer over MDF there is a good possibility that the veneer will need to expand/contract during seasonal changes and this could crack the smooth gloss finish.

OK, I'm just finishing off my sub and need some advise. The enclosure is an Ash veneer with a Red Mahogany finish. I have a baffle piece that I'm doing in Gloss Black with a accent wood trim around the front face to cover the edges. My question is on the Gloss black. I put two coats of sandable primer...

I just purchased my new projector, Acer PH530 (2500:1, 1000Lum). It should be here early next week. I am building an 8x8 wall in my unfinished basement. I plan on painting the bottom part and about 1 foot of the top flat black, and the rest will be the screen. I need to paint the screen portion,...

How to seal MDF seams for painting?
                          by Jim Holtz
I have a project coming up that I want to paint gloss black which shows everything, especially seams as the cabinet ages and the MDF shrinks.

I remember reading that Jon used something that took care of the issue but I can't find the thread. I'd appreciate any feedback.

                          G'day All,

I'm going to be getting an HP MP3220 projector for my travels with work and thought I'd use this opportunity to start a Home Theatre. I'm thinking about painting a piece of MDF rather than the wall. I'm planning on trying Misty Evening Gray and then if that doesn't work well...
