    704s with 600 series centre?

    Hi,

I am looking for a new speaker setup to partner my Rotel RSP 1066 and 1075 processor and amp. I have demoed the 683s which I liked the sound of but am not so keen on the visuals. However, i do like the look of the 704s, they get great reviews etc, but the centre speaker would not fit in the rack. I have therefore considered using the HTM61 centre and DS3 rears with the 704s.

Anybody know how they may or may match sound wise? Is it a good idea or could it be a mistake?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

The HTM61 is controversial because of its design and some have had problems with the spatial dispersion. You might be better with a 685 or a 705 for the center.

a few people complain that the htm61 did not match well with the 683, you will have to listen and decide if the center will match your 7 series, another option is to also look at the CM series centers, they have two models and about the same size as the 600 series, it's worth a listen.

I used htm61 with 683 and 703 also with 804s. They blend it well. I did not have any problems. Most of the comment about the htm61 comes from the people, who did not have it or use it. But most important judge will be your ears...

It will most likely be ok but the HTM7 is very much an ideal partner for the 704 and would give a very seemless sound across the front. Maybe post a picture of your rack and the front part of the room so we can suggest alternative positioning.

I have often thought that the HTM7 would be a better match with the 704 than the 705. The 704 as the same crossover point tweeter/midrange has the HTM7 but the 705 is the odd one out with the crossover set differently, giving the tweeter a roll lower down and probably less in its ideal frequency range. I have often wondered how a 705 would sound if it had the same tweeter crossover frequency as pretty much every other B&W speaker.........ha ha it would sound like a HTM7 probably, not that they sound that different.

            B&W 703's with a HTM61?
            by jim777
            After all the talk about the HTM7 that doesn't match the 703's;

Would the HTM61 from the 600 series be a better match for those who don't want to go all the way up to the 800 series...? It has a FST!

Maybe it would even look (not sound) better than matching the 800 tweeter...

            B&W 805s with HTM61 centre?
            by SoundEngine355
            Hi,

Due to the size limitations of my TV cabinet I can only fit the HTM61/62 centre, would the HTM61 be a good match for the 805s for HT?

            Cheers

Which series do you own: 600, 700 or 800?
            by RebelMan
Several posts around the forum got me thinking about the popularity of the different B&W series of speakers. I believe of the three primary series (600, 700 and 800) the 600 series is by far the most popular. While the 800 series is reserved for the hi-end esoteric the 600 series is the entry...

            series 600 center speaker issues
            by newguy987
Just a couple of questions concerning some issues I have run into my center speaker. It's the htm61 and I understand people have issues with it, however this little problem is different. It's still very new so I beleive it is not broken in yet. I decided to try to break it in a little quicker, so...
